Overview The Associate Electric Transmission Engineer supports the planning, design, and maintenance of electric transmission systems, including both overhead and underground lines. This role involves close collaboration with crossfunctional teams and active participation in a growing organization to help meet project goals, schedules, and quality standards. The position requires utility experience, preferably in electric transmission, or equivalent transmission experience within the private sector.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Support high voltage overhead transmission projects through all phases, including concept development, design, and construction.
- Assist with high voltage overhead transmission maintenance, repair, and replacement initiatives.
- Support high voltage underground transmission projects, including performing required engineering calculations.
- Review third party designs and calculations to ensure compliance with Company safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Conduct construction site visits as needed; prepare sketches, field notes, and formal field reports.
- Safely operate Company vehicles in accordance with all safety and security requirements.
- Communicate project status, challenges, and proposed solutions to department leads and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to field personnel, including modification sketches, engineering calculations, and responses to field inquiries.
- Utilize PLCCAD software for transmission line design and engineering calculations.
- Use specialized cable and wirepull analysis software to support underground transmission projects.
- Work under limited supervision of a Senior Engineer or Department Manager while demonstrating initiative, technical competence, and professional judgment.
- Participate in departmental meetings and serve on internal working groups and professional committees, as assigned.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, standards, and best practices, with a focus on electric transmission systems.
- Actively participate in the Companys Emergency Response Plan, including assigned storm restoration duties.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years of experience in an engineering or construction department, including at least one year of engineering work experience. Minimum 2 years of utility experience or privatesector highvoltage transmission experience, including at least one year of engineering work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or Master's degree in Engineering and 5 years of experience working on transmission projects, including three to five years of utility or privatesector highvoltage transmission experience, with at least one year of engineering work experience.
Relevant Work Experience
- Familiarity with basic Engineering principles, Drawing Management Systems, and calculation software, required.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or other drawing software, required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, required.
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to perform at a high level in a professional business setting, required.
- Experience and/or knowledge of high voltage transmission or distribution systems, required.
- Exercises sound judgment, initiative, creativity, and decisionmaking in handling assignments, required.
- Technically proficient across a broad range of engineering responsibilities, with a demonstrated willingness to explore and implement innovative solutions, required.
- Knowledge of PLCCAD for design and calculations, preferred.
- Knowledge of specialized cable/wire pull software, preferred.

Physical Demands
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Stand, walk, and climb ladders and stairs for the duration of the workday
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
