As an Senior Software Engineer in the OPG team, you will contribute to the design and implementation of intelligent backend solutions by applying both software engineering and AI skills. In this role, you will work on high-scale, distributed systems that enable advanced productivity features for users across the globe. You will collaborate with a diverse group of engineers, PMs, and designers, and work closely with other teams across Microsoft to deliver robust, efficient, and secure services in the Microsoft 365 and Azure ecosystem to meet OPG's (Office Product Group) core service needs. Responsibilities Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Own quality of your code and fully leverage AI development tools to accelerate development Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight. Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation. Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems. Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience. Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. Preferred Qualifications: Proven ability to design and develop loosely coupled, componentized, and unit-tested software. Ability to deal with ambiguity and understand key business needs in line with competing priorities and apply the right technology and implementation to the solution. Demonstrated strength to quickly get up-to-speed and be productive on new technical domains and are comfortable in dealing with ambiguity. Analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills with a solid understanding of object-oriented design, coding patterns, testing practices, and approaches for large-scale technical challenges. Proven ability to use AI tooling to reduce cycle time and boost throughput while maintaining Microsoft's strict standards for privacy, security, and compliance. Experience in building libraries, SDKs and other components using, but not limited to: C/C++, C#, Java, TypeScript Extensive experience with one or more modern web technologies such as .NET, Node, building RESTful APIs, and hands-on knowledge of web concepts such as HTTP, SOAP, and MVC. Solid industry experience collaborating with others on designing, developing, testing, and shipping solutions to large scale technical problems. Solid background in designing and deploying systems and services powered by AI infrastructure, with emphasis on scalability, reliability, and performance in production environments. Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
