DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego's Temporary Employment Services department is pleased to announce a new opportunity for a Salesforce Developer supporting admissions and recruitment operations within a UC San Diego academic unit.

This role partners closely with functional leaders, organizational units, and subject matter experts to design, develop, and deploy Salesforce-based solutions that support business processes related to admissions and recruitment. The Salesforce Developer plays a hands-on role in system administration, configuration, and continuous improvement while collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver effective, user-centered solutions.

Position Overview

The Salesforce Developer leads small-to-midsize projects and supports day-to-day CRM operations within a collaborative, three-person CRM team. The role balances project-based development work with first-tier user support, requiring strong technical expertise, initiative, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable Salesforce solutions.

Key Responsibilities

* Serve as primary system administrator for TargetX and core Salesforce CRM environments.

* Perform Salesforce administrative functions including user management, reports, dashboards, workflows, and routine configuration.

* Design, implement, and enhance business processes; support user adoption and change management.

* Manage Salesforce data feeds and system integrations.

* Evaluate, scope, and deliver new development requests in collaboration with stakeholders.

* Lead project discussions, gather requirements, develop specifications, and communicate timelines and deliverables.

* Provide first-tier user support through the Jira Service Desk ticketing system.

* Assist with user training, onboarding, and documentation to expand Salesforce/TargetX adoption across program teams.

* Collaborate with Rady Program Management teams to support administrative, development, and system improvement initiatives.

* Communicate project status, risks, and changes clearly to stakeholders.

Team & Work Environment:

As part of a small CRM team, this role requires a high degree of independence, accountability, and collaboration. The Salesforce Developer is expected to actively expand technical expertise through self-directed learning, peer collaboration, and ongoing training.

Additional Position Details

  • Anticipated duration: 9 months

  • Compensation: $38.31 - $40.71 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

  • Location: Hybrid / remote work arrangement. Full-remote work arrangement available after initial on-site period. On-site work will be at UC San Diego's main campus in La Jolla.

  • Work schedule: Mon - Fri, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong experience with SalesForce.com and TargetX platforms. Experience building custom apps and objects, formula fields, workflows, custom views and other content of intermediate complexity.

  • Strong understanding of SalesForce.com best practices and functionality. Ability to assess the impact of new requirements on SalesForce.com and TargetX.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Rapport-building skills; client interaction skills and experience interacting with users/clients to identify the key components of a process. Experience interviewing line managers to expedite streamlining of processes, guiding discussions, and clarifying uncertain/unknown steps of a process.

  • Experience with common programming tools.

  • Intermediate skills associated with the design, development, modification and deployment of software, including object-oriented programming concepts.

  • Experience leading projects of small to medium complexity (i.e. identify scope of project, estimate timelines & milestones). Project management and organizational skills; ability to adapt to changing priorities and changing deadlines.

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Project leadership skills. Excellent prioritization skills & time management skills; multi-tasking skills. Experience projecting project timelines and meeting deadlines. Demonstrated software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.

  • Experience providing insightful data-driven analysis. Extensive demonstrated experience mining data from multiple sources and databases using SQL, Access, pivot tables and other query tools.

  • Strong knowledge of relevant internal databases, BI applications and tools such as Tableau and Cognos. Ability to produce high-quality reports and documentation. Ability to use dashboard intelligence platforms (i.e., IBM Cognos, Tableau Desktop, Tableau Server), enterprise performance management software, and other analytical technologies. Demonstrated experience with complex spreadsheets, tables, graphs, and PowerPoint slides.

  • Advanced knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL) to group, analyze, and transform data. Ability to generate moderately complex reports/tables using diverse data sets within RDMS environments.

  • Knowledge of other IT-related areas. Experience with developing software applications involved with confidential or protected data.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.

  • Knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.

PREFERRED:

  • Salesforce Administrator Certification, higher or equivalent.

  • Experience working in a higher education/university setting, and/or experience working with admissions/recruitment, registrar, enrollment, and student based data systems.

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies: Extreme, SCRUM, Rapid prototype, etc.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,800 - $115,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.51 - $55.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
