DESCRIPTION

Uses professional engineering concepts to perform moderately complex engineering assignments. Works in a specialized engineering field on a major training and / or research effort. Works on assignments of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors.

Under general supervision, utilizes scientific methods including interferometry, tunable infrared laser direct absorption spectroscopy, cavity ringdown spectroscopy, NDIR gas analysis, and multi-stage air compression systems. Conducts field work to include site installation that requires testing, installing, and troubleshooting gas monitoring instrumentation within a sensitive timeframe.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.

  • Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments. Proven experience with mechanical engineering design software packages. Proven working experience with the physics of data acquisition and sensor behavior. Proven experience programming mathematical packages for data analysis using Matlab.

  • Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments. Proven ability to provide work direction and supervision to students as needed.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate with technical and scientific personnel, including vendors and equipment manufacturers.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner, to assist in identifying any challenges or barriers.

  • Analytical skills, and strong skills in attention to detail.

  • Analytical and judgment skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.

  • Experience with LabVIEW, Matlab, SolidWorks, MS Office suite software.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures.

  • Working knowledge of machining techniques and materials.

  • Ability to work in a collaborative manner.

  • Ability to create and order a complex bill of materials and assemble components associated with atmospheric gas instruments.

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining or replacing complex laboratoryinstrumentation previously including, but not limited to, Aerodyne lasers, Rix compressors, and Elementar/Isoprime massspectrometers.
