Responsibilities:
This role supports key functions of
IRB operations, compliance, and research study oversight. The IRB Manager will serve as a liaison between Presbyterian Healthcare Services' IRB, industry sponsors, and internal partners across the organization. In this position, you will help facilitate and review IRB submissions, support the approval process, and ensure timely, accurate reporting- including regulatory correspondence and research-related metrics- to keep studies moving forward efficiently and compliantly.
- Develop, implement, and manage efficient procedures for processing human subjects research in compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
- Coordinate IRB reviews, followup activities, and workflow timelines.
- Serve as the expert liaison between investigators and reviewers, providing guidance on regulations, risk, and submission requirements.
- Review complex research protocols and submissions; identify issues and request clarifications or additional materials as needed.
- Support HRPP leadership with audits, accreditation activities, compliance tasks, and quality assurance efforts.
- Evaluate and manage research protocols, amendments, continuing reviews, and reportable events to ensure compliance with laws and guidelines.
- Use electronic submission and data management systems accurately to track and document IRB activity.
- Maintain strong working relationships with researchers and continuously assess workflow processes for optimization.
Key Skills
- Deep knowledge of human subjects research regulations (45 CFR 46, 21 CFR 50/56, etc.).
- Strong leadership and teambuilding abilities.
- Excellent communication skills for varied audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt quickly.
- Knowledge of process improvement tools and methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience functioning independently in an HRPP office.
- Familiarity with OneAegis or similar IRB/HRPP systems.
- Experience with cIRB reliance workflows.
- Background in clinical research compliance, QA, or regulatory affairs.
- 10+ years of research regulatory or HRPP experience.
Qualifications:
Associate of Science degree required. Certified IRB Manager (CIM) credential required. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in human research protections, IRB coordination, research compliance, or related regulatory oversight. Demonstrated expertise with federal human subject protection regulations. Experience developing SOPs, conducting audits, and interpreting complex regulatory standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
