Job Title: Tax Senior

What you'll do: As a Tax Senior you'll be a key member of the team responsible for implementing the Bank's strategic tax plan to achieve maximum profitability and assist with oversight programs that help protect the Bank. This role will report to the Tax Manager - Information Reporting and focus on federal and state tax information reporting oversight and compliance, in addition to corporate income tax. The ideal candidate will be a knowledgeable and proactive professional with a working knowledge of corporate tax and a demonstrated interest in becoming a subject matter expert and trusted partner and advisor to internal teams on tax information reporting. In this role, you'll also support the Tax Department with various federal and state tax initiatives, including federal and state compliance, audits and examinations, internal controls, financial reporting and oversight on tax planning strategies.
- Responsible for supporting the Tax Department in implementing the Bank's strategic plan for tax compliance. Assist in developing policies, procedures, controls, documentation for assigned areas of responsibility. Act as a Tax subject matter resource for assigned working groups and areas of responsibility.
- Participate in building a strategic and technically strong tax organization inclusive of maintaining in-house preparation of federal and state tax returns, supporting workpapers and reconciliations. Monitor the tax compliance calendar for filings, estimated payments, and tax notices received are responded to timely.
- Assist with the preparation of responses to taxing authority notices and inquiries and conduct tax research as needed.
- Establish effective working relationships and advise the heads of various lines of business on compliance, audits, and examinations by various taxing authorities and jurisdictions, including required internal and external coordination.
- Assist with due diligence related to tax information reporting and withholding for new products and services.
What you'll need:
- 3+ years of related experience in Tax, Accounting, Finance (GL Mgmt., Public Reporting, Analysis) or similar field.
- Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge of general banking operations, including deposit operations, loan administration, treasury management and/or other commercial banking products and services.
- Intermediate knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
- Intermediate knowledge of U.S. federal, state and local taxes; accounting for income taxes; controls and processes; tax compliance systems focused on automation.
- Intermediate knowledge of tax research (ex. BNA, Checkpoint) and large corporate tax provision and compliance software (OneSource).
- Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
- Certified Public Accountant preferred.
