DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Sewage Planning Specialist Trainee, you will participate in a 12-month training period to learn the specialized job duties of a Sewage Planning Specialist 1. You will learn how to educate, evaluate, and manage local agencies, sewage enforcement officers, and municipal officials in their responsibilities and administration of the planning and permitting functions of Act 537. You will also learn how to conduct and document evaluations of local agencies and sewage enforcement officers to determine the agency's overall organization and ability to plan, permit, and enforce. You will acquire the skills needed to provide detailed recommendations for corrective actions to be taken when problems or concerns are identified. Special attention must be given towards reviewing and referring sewage complaints within the allotted timeframes.


Additional areas of focus will include learning to
assist with the development of program guidance documents for statewide program use, assisting with regional training for sewage enforcement officers, and eventually meeting with governmental officials to explain departmental programs and functions. You will also learn how to properly prepare case documentation including case history, past violations, and other pertinent information for use by the Compliance Specialist, legal staff, and management in the preparation of legal documents.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Williamsport. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
