THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship offers a valuable opportunity to understand the operations of the PennDOT Communications Office, a dynamic environment characterized by frequent interruptions, tight deadlines, and numerous ongoing projects. As part of the team, you will engage in public outreach and promote various PennDOT initiatives, gaining insight into the different units within the department. Your responsibilities will include supporting the Community Relations Coordinator and Safety Press Officer with daily tasks, crafting press releases, monitoring current news, briefing the CRC on urgent matters, and assisting at media and safety events. Additionally, you will help address legislative and media inquiries, explore promotional strategies for PennDOT by showcasing projects and employees, and undertake other assigned duties.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time internship that will run from May 2026 through August 2026
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Schedule may vary with events within the press office
  • Travel may be required
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled or intending to enroll FULL-TIME or PART-TIME in a two-year degree, bachelor's degree, or advanced program for the fall semester.
    • Acceptable majors:
      • Communications
      • Business Administration
      • Business Management
      • English
      • Public Relations
      • Marketing
  • Must be a Pennsylvania resident or currently enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university.
  • In good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
