Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Student Intern.

The Department of Neurosurgery has an immediate opening for a Student Intern. We are seeking current medical students interested in Neurosurgery.
The Medical AI Fellowship at NYU Langone is a one year, program designed for U.S. medical students who hold degrees in computer science or mathematics and are currently enrolled in a U.S. MD program. Fellows will join and contribute to the cutting-edge research efforts of the NYU OLAB (Operations, Learning & AI Biology Lab), gaining hands on experience in medical AI applications under expert mentorship.
Objectives
Immerse trainees in innovative medical AI research, emphasizing translational applications aligned with OLABs mission.
Develop fellows proficiency in AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, statistical modeling, and data analysis applied to real-world medical challenges (e.g., imaging, diagnostics, predictive models, natural language processing).
Facilitate collaboration across disciplines medical students, computer scientists, mathematicians, and clinicians to foster an AI driven, interdisciplinary research environment.
Support presentation of research at national conferences and authorship in peer reviewed journals.

Program Structure

Fellows are embedded within the NYU OLAB at NYU Langone, participating in real-world projects under OLAB investigators.

Curriculum includes seminars on AI in medicine, ethical and regulatory considerations, algorithm development, data management, and translational research practices.

Regular lab meetings, research presentations, and mentorship sessions with faculty and peers.

Dedicated Fellow Development Time (e.g., one day per week) for independent learning, career development, or collaborative projects.

Mentorship & Learning Environment

Mentored by OLABs multidisciplinary team including faculty, postdocs, and senior researchers focusing on AI methodology development, clinical integration, and ethical considerations.

Engagement with broader NYU Langone research infrastructure, including access to clinical collaborators, institutional data repositories, AI labs, and seminar offerings.

Networking opportunities across AI in medicine, biomedical informatics, and related academic communities.

Outcomes & Impact

By the end of the fellowship year, fellows will:

Have significantly contributed to active AI research projects with potential for clinical translation.

Be positioned to integrate AI into future medical training, research, specialty selection, or academic medicine careers.

Possess the foundations to author peer-reviewed work, present at conferences, and continue in innovative translational AI roles within healthcare.

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:
To qualify you must be a currently matriculated medical student at a US medical school. The student intern must be a full-time student, or if working in the summer months (Mid-May through Mid-Sept), must be planning to return to full-time status in the fall.
Must hold an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science or mathematics (or closely related quantitative field).
Demonstrated interest or experience in AI, data science, computational modeling, or algorithm development preferred.
Application materials: CV, letter of intent / statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation (including at least one from a quantitative/technical mentor), and academic transcript.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $16.50 - $18.00 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
