About the Job

Position Overview:
A full-time (100% FTE) position is open in the Institute on Community Integration's (ICI) TeleOutreach Program and Department of Human Services (DHS) Regional Positive Supports Technical Assistance Project. The TeleOutreach Lab leverages technology and innovation to increase our reach and build new capacity for serving significantly more people with neurodevelopmental disabilities in Minnesota. The DHS TA project involves providing education, mentoring, and supports to a range of community partners and developing content for online and onsite instruction. Primary duties of this posted position will involve outreach, community and stakeholder engagement, and delivery of intervention through research, training, and technical assistance to expand the reach and impact in the core areas of focus for the TeleOutreach Program. This position collaborates closely with the teams within Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB) including collaboration with the MIDB service hubs, departments within MIDB, and the College of Extension. This position will also support a study at the University of Minnesota Telehealth Innovation site of the Research Collaboratory to Explore Best Practices for Expanding Access to Care Through Expansion and Support of Telehealth Care for Children and Families with Behavioral Health Needs.

The individual who fills this position also will be expected to work collaboratively across teams of people, disciplines, and departments at the University, including clinical, research, training, and technical assistance-related activities. This position is in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This position will include Flex work, with some in person commitments (such as in state and regional travel for community engagement events) and Research Outreach Centers (e.g., Grand Rapids regional outreach center).

Job Responsibilities:
Research, Clinical, Training, and Technical-Assistance Related Intervention Responsibilities (55% time)

  • Develop protocols for intervention activities and supervise project teams in the implementation of activities, ensuring a high and consistent level of fidelity and competency is met.
  • Engage in direct implementation of intervention activities with children, families, provider organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Develop and monitor effective education, training and technical assistance processes related to early or school age intervention.
  • Oversee the work of professional staff and students in relation to specific project activities, including management of lab.
  • Development and manage work plans, timelines, and resources to meet project goals.
  • Plan and conduct events (teleconferences, webinars, meetings, etc.) for diverse audiences including state and federal department of education staff, educators, parents, and researchers.
  • Organize, analyze, and provide timely reporting on project to funding agencies and for related needs.

Outreach Development (30% time)

  • Work with Project Primary Investigators (PI) to develop and implement a multi-year plan for outreach activities related to research, training, and technical assistance pathways, with particular focus in supporting geographically dispersed, highly mobile, and underserved populations.
  • Work with local and extension stakeholders, University Project PIs, staff, faculty, and students to strategically engage in outreach and expansion activities related to TeleOutreach and utilization of existing resources and partnerships across regions in Minnesota.
  • Pursue opportunities that attract funding for TeleOutreach by facilitating connections, building partnerships between community stakeholders and the University TeleOutreach Team, communicating and promoting the program's capabilities.
  • Work with a team of trainers to create and disseminate training and provide technical assistance to a range of community partners (county professionals, providers, self-advocates, families, as well as other organizations
  • Foster and develop teamwork that builds a sustainable partnership between the program, participants, and communities.
  • Engage in development activities, coordination, and the provision of training and technical assistance for future project sites and cohorts that include organizations implementing positive supports using a tiered framework
  • Travel to and engage with future and current project sites and teams across the State.
  • Interact with national and local/state leadership personnel and advisory boards related to project activities and outcomes.
  • Work with regional networks that are working to build capacity in positive supports
  • Develop sustainable networks to increase access to intervention pathways for children, adolescents, and families across regions of the State.
  • Support development and implementation of digital navigation programs to support care navigation and care access in research and training projects.

Operational and Project Management Responsibilities (15% time)

  • Manage coordination of research, training, or technical assistance projects, including the ability to organize information, coordinate team members, meeting project aims in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements for research projects.
  • Assist the project Principal Investigator (PI) with funding-management activities, including documentation, data collection, reporting requirements, and achieving project-related goals in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and train interventionists in project-related activities. Design, implement and manage projects, including the management of project activities independently, the development and management of work plans, timelines, and resources to meet project goals.
  • Engage in State-initiatives and networks for expansion and outreach across Minnesota.
  • Plan and conduct events (teleconferences, webinars, meetings, etc.) for diverse audiences including state and federal department of education staff, educators, parents, and researchers.
  • Organize, convene, and participate in meetings and conferences, communities of practice, and advisory panels where research and policy findings are disseminated, and information gathered for future research and technical assistance.
  • Ensure project trainers, interventionists, and other staff develop and maintain databases for the multiple projects within the TeleOutreach and DHS Projects, including requirements for privacy and confidentiality.
  • Summarize and review project data to inform project decisions, research, training, and technical assistance dissemination.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS degree with at least six years of relevant post-degree experience.
  • A minimum of 6 years of clinical or educational experience related to early and/or school-aged intervention with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.
  • Experience providing technical assistance in positive supports
  • Ability to travel within Minnesota and nationally.
  • Demonstrated commitment to advocating for an inclusive environment for all backgrounds and identities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in education, educational psychology, special education, child development, psychology, social work, public health, curriculum and instruction or related field along with a minimum of four years' experience, or a
  • 7-10 years of experience in disability field.
  • Credentials or certifications achieved related to early or school-aged intervention (e.g., Behavior Analyst, Registered Behavior Technician, Speech Language Pathologist, etc.)
  • Experience collaborating with and meeting the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse children, families, and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate the work of multiple organizations and individuals to work toward the achievement of common goals.
  • Experience with State systems and intervention pathways for children with or at risk for neurodevelopmental disabilities and/or behavioral health needs.
  • Experience with positive supports (such as applied behavior analysis, positive behavior support, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-informed supports, etc.
  • Experience supervising teams of staff.

The Institute on Community Integration (ICI) is a federally funded center within the College of Education and Human Development. ICI's mission is to improve policies and practices to support the community inclusion of individuals with disabilities through collaborative research, training, and information sharing. The TeleOutreach Center is under development as a core area for the new Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain at the University of Minnesota.

Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain will bring together teams of researchers and clinicians from the U's College of Education and Human Development and Medical School, who study how the brain is built during the formative years, when it is most receptive to positive intervention. Together, these experts will tackle disorders such as autism, ADHD, cognitive delays, drug addiction, and severe depression-conditions that often start early and have lifelong consequences.

The Masonic Institute is slated to open in fall 2021 at 2025 East River Parkway in Minneapolis, forming a research triangle with M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital and the U's Biomedical Discovery District.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: The salary range for this position is $78,000-84,000; Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.
