HJF is seeking a Dietary Supplement Ingredient Specialist to investigate dietary supplement ingredients to directly support the OPSS Ingredient Database (OPSSID). This position will be in support of the Advanced Research for Military Optimization, Rehabilitation, and Readiness (ARMORR) under the Uniformed Services University.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

This position is currently scheduled for 6 months, regularly scheduled for 20 hours per week.


  • Complete datasheets and compile documentation from federal and industry partners on OPSSID substances.
  • Conduct literature searches to establish the safety profile for ingredients identified in dietary supplements, health, wellness, and performance products.
  • Communicate with health professionals and subject matter experts regarding findings for individual dietary ingredients.
  • Identify additional dietary supplement ingredients and substances to be included in OPSSID.
  • Report on trends in dietary supplement industry and policy. Incorporate these findings into educational products that can be disseminated by the OPSS program.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree in Nutrition required
  • Minimum of 8-10 years experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of employees and management. Ability to work independently as well as partner effectively in a team environment.
  • Diligence, accuracy, and attention to detail, particularly when evaluating complex substances.
  • Ability to distill complex ideas and scientific information into written and graphic products appropriate for a lay audience.
  • Familiarity using PubMed, PubChem, and other federal databases.
  • Experience using MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive), and EndNote.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and T1 public trust investigation.

Work Environment

  • This position is remote.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $37.31-$48.00. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Employment with HJF is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, which may include, but is not limited to, contacting your professional references, verification of previous employment, education and credentials, a criminal background check, and a department of motor vehicle (DMV) check if applicable. Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Chief Human Resources Officer.
