JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State is searching for a full time Test Track Driver - Grade 6 to join the team. Duties include:
  • Drive bus, heavy truck, autonomous and connected, or other vehicles
  • Drive vehicles for various tests and test maneuvers in accordance with established procedures
  • Monitor vehicle gauges and indicators to ensure that vehicle is operating within the specified normal ranges
  • Maintain logs and provide written documentation as necessary
  • Under the direction of Faculty, Supervisor, Test Technician, etc., assist with tests and test set-up, such as preparing dynamometer
  • Operate truck to haul materials, sweep track, plow snow, and spread anti-skid material
  • Operate lawn mower and tractor to cut grass, remove snow, etc.
  • Fuel vehicles with fuels such as diesel, gasoline, methanol, natural gas, propane, hydrogen, and electric batteries
  • Maintain and check vehicle fluid levels
  • Drive vehicles to and from Altoona Bus Testing Center and other locations as assigned
  • Record required information in driver's log book and report all problems to Supervisor or Shift Leader
  • Operate equipment such as vehicle hoists, dynamometer, forklift, high lift, skid steer, pneumatic tools, drills, saws, and axle scales; perform welding of broken parts on tractor, lawn mower, snow plow, etc.
  • Load and unload vehicles by hand/or mechanical devices
  • At the direction of Shift Leader or Supervisor, perform routine maintenance on tractors, lawn mowers, snow plows, etc.
  • Maintain inventory, supplies, tools, and equipment at work site
  • Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Requires a Pennsylvania Commercial Driver`s License (CDL) Class A with passenger endorsement (P). Over 3 months up to and including 12 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License Class A with Endorsement P - Pennsylvania Department of Transportation

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This position is subject to federal Department of Transportation testing for alcohol and controlled substances (49 CFR PART 40), and physical examination requirements as per PA. CODE 231.85. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
