Job Description:

As the Security Monitor Supervisor oversees all security operations and supervises all security monitors while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:



  • Enforces rules of The Harbor Light Center
  • Ensures the safety of all clients, staff, and visitors
  • Monitors all incoming traffic into the facility 24 hours per day
  • Monitors security cameras
  • Facilitates and performs emergency evacuations
  • Secures the building and ensures all doors are locked
  • Conducts internal and external rounds throughout the building and premises
  • Performs searches of dorm rooms, or other spaces, to detect contraband or other prohibited items
  • Conducts Breathalyzer tests on every client (required & random) entering the South Entrance
  • Conducts urine drug screens (required & random) on clients
  • Performs search of belongings on all perspective clients
  • Performs search of belongings for current clients who have left the facility (i.e., Work, shop, etc.) and are re-entering the building
  • Directs and documents Bed Checks to verify our census on a nightly basis
  • Confiscates, disposes, and documents all contraband found on clients, in building or premises
  • Escorts clients to meals
  • Monitors clients at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks
  • Conducts mandatory Morning Thoughts
  • Dispenses and tracks lunch bags given to working clients
  • Escorts clients to group sessions
  • Transports clients to and from the hospital
  • Transports client medication to the Medical Room
  • Monitors the Medical Room during medication administration
  • Maintains Transitional Housing sign in/out sheets
  • Maintains sign in/out sheets for client breaks
  • Documents and completes Incident Reports for events related to the building, premises, off-site occurrences and/or clients and staff
  • Receives and completes Property Log for all client property that may be dropped off
  • Secures and completes Valuables Log of all client valuables/property
  • Logs every piece of mail received from the United States Postal Service
  • Answers, transfers, and directs all incoming calls to the appropriate person or department
  • Monitors Residential Treatment Department and clients when Residential Treatment staff are away from the building
  • Monitors community service workers
  • Processes and receipts cash and/or check payments for client accounts when the Financial Office is closed
  • Attends monthly In-Service Meetings
  • Helps/Assists other departments as needed or directed
  • Maintains attendance in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required, associate's degree preferred

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Supervisory Experience a plus

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. CPR and First Aid Certification within 6 months of hire

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • If in recovery, must demonstrate a minimum of 2 years sobriety including emotional and social stability


Supervisory Responsibility: Assists in ensuring staff coverage for all shifts

Attend and lead security staff meetings

Assist in training and policy instruction for security monitors

Provide oversight of security during off hours with assigned company cell phone

Maintains constant communication with all the Directors

Participate in New Hire Orientation Training

Attends One-on-One Meetings with Quality Assurance Director

Maintains and ensures functionality of security equipment such as metal detectors, AED, camera systems, radios, etc.

Provides adequate coverage in shifts for vacations, personal days, leave of absences and holidays

Attend external training opportunities as assigned

Responsible for security monitors annual performance reviews

Manages paperwork in accordance with the Retention Policy

Ensuring drills are completed monthly

Responsible for tracking drills and inspections

Representative in Safety, Quality Improvement, and Infection Control Committee(s)

Facilitate a Health and Safety In-Service as a required staff training

Responsible for in-service make-up sheets to be completed monthly

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity

Travel: No travel required

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment, which may require some weekend and evening work
