Sawnee EMC is seeking an Electrical Distribution
System Engineer. Requires a
Bachelor's Degree in electrical, mechanical, civil engineering or similar engineering discipline. Preferred experience in design, modeling and maintenance of distribution power systems. Must have strong computer, mathematical and communication skills.
PURPOSE
- Assisting in process analysis to improve operations and increase efficiency.
- Monitoring construction progress of work plan and related projects and ensuring timely completion.
- Evaluating and implementing new technologies in the metering, apparatus, construction, and other sections of the Operations Department.
- Demonstrates an awareness that the job exists to effectively serve each and every SEMC member, and at every opportunity to achieve increased member and public understanding for support SEMC.
DEMANDS
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil engineering or similar engineering discipline or a related field of study from an accredited university; or equivalent experience as solely determined by the Corporation.
REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience in electrical engineering.
- Preferred prior experience with a distribution power system, to include a working understanding of system studies, research studies, computer modeling applications, and sectionalizing is highly preferred.
- Preferred experience in design, modeling, and maintenance of distribution power systems, with an emphasis on system modeling and reliability preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with customers, the public and regulatory agencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills enabling successful communication of plans, programs and procedures through face-to-face and telephone discussions, and written correspondence.
- High level of competency and working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, and NISC iVUE to include Financials/Vault/Service/Outage/Admin software. Advanced working abilities creating and updating spreadsheets, databases and developing presentations. Advanced skills for organizing and maintaining records and workflow.
- A valid Georgia driver's license.
- Must be able to pass Cooperative's drug screen for position.
- Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality record.
- Flexible work hours as necessitated by circumstances, on-call functions, and irregular work shifts.
- Flexibility for irregular work hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Position requires that this individual report in time of natural disaster and weather-related emergencies and recognizing that the Corporation (SEMC) is an electric utility.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner is an essential job function.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Initiates, coordinates, and carries out miscellaneous projects to improve efficiency within the Operations Department and other departments, as necessary.
- Monitors system and circuit loading and initiates switching and load shift operations, as necessary.
- Serves as a liaison with the Engineering Department on various system applications, providing field as well as technical expertise.
- Analyzes system outage records to determine corrective action needed for the continuation of the desired standards of electric service.
- Maintains current knowledge on engineering practices and procedures in the distribution of electric power.
- Applies knowledge of electrical engineering concepts and practices to enhance the reliability of the Cooperative's distribution system.
- Recognizes distribution reliability issues, maintenance issues, or hazards and takes initiative to have them addressed.
- Requires reliable and accurate performance of duties, to include the exercise of independent judgment and decision-making, without direct supervision.
- Assists Operations Department personnel with regard to various technical questions and design practices.
- Prepares reports, analyses, and other studies using software packages such as Microsoft Office and others as required.
- Assists customers with questions relating to current projects or requests that may be in progress throughout the company.
- Work with other sections, departments, and personnel of the Cooperative to ensure the expedient and proper handling of both internal and member-oriented projects and requests.
- Job requires the ability to work under frequent deadline pressures, multiple changing priorities, and frequent interruptions, along with assisting members as needed.

- Internal Communication: This position's internal customers consist of all SEMC employees and assigned contract workers.
- External Communication: This position's external customers include all SEMC members, the public, as well as vendors, legal advisors, regulatory agencies, and professional organizations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Includes general office conditions with frequent external meetings with employees and the public, out-of-doors conditions under various weather conditions, external meetings and field work with employees and the general public.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock.
- Requires the mental ability of frequent contact with the public, the logical and analytical application of engineering judgment, willingness to explore and apply sound creative solutions that will aid in day-to-day projects and activities.
- The position requires the ability to work under frequent deadline pressures, multiple changing priorities, and frequent interruptions, along with assisting staff as needed.
- Job involves the operation of motor vehicles.
- Sedentary physical requirements are regularly required to sit, speak, and hear, use hands to key, grasp, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. Duties are performed with extended periods of time spent working with a computer and reading small-print materials.
- Physical requirements of standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, grasping, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling within the light strength level, occasionally extending into the medium strength level.
- The employee is frequently required to lift twenty (20) pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift fifty (50) pounds.
