The expected hiring range for this position is:

$70,800.00-$100,667.00.

About the role:
Fermilab's Accelerator Division (AD) Systems Engineering Group is seeking an Industrial Controls Engineer. This position is an electronics hardware engineering position responsible for the design, deployment, and maintenance of electronics hardware for the Fermilab Accelerator Control System. This position primarily involves industrial controls for systems such as cooling water, accelerator vacuum, and stepper motors for movable devices.

What your day-to-day as an Industrial Controls Engineer at Fermilab will look like:

  • Analyze data and perform engineering calculations.
  • Develop designs of specific parts, components, or phases of a project or system.
  • Apply a variety of standard engineering techniques to assignments with clear and specified objectives.
  • With guidance from more senior colleagues, participate in the full lifecycle of systems: conceptual realization, design, review, procurement, installation and configuration, testing, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assist in the development of cost and labor estimates, and monitoring of budgetary obligations.
  • Serve on safety panels, review committees, and other subcommittees as assigned.
  • Provide technical direction to drafters, designers, engineering associates, technicians, or colleague engineers as assigned.
  • Participate in technical conferences and publication.
  • Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations pertinent to this position.

Essential Competencies and Attributes for Success:

  • Bachelor's (minimum) in an applicable Engineering discipline from an ABET accredited institution.

Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Basic professional knowledge of theories, concepts, principles, and methodology for the engineering discipline. Possess ability to perform basic engineering design solutions and techniques.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Computer (PLC) design and programming, which is required for this position.
  • Experience with motion control systems, particularly stepper motors, which is desirable.
  • Experience with the Fermilab accelerator complex and control system, which is desirable.
  • Familiarity with computer programming languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, Rust, etc., is a plus.
  • An applicant capable of qualifying and training for ODH, Radiation Worker, and Controlled access environments.

  • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
