The City of Patterson’s Public Works Department is seeking to fill (1) one full-time Maintenance Worker position within the Parks division and to establish an eligibility list. Duties include but are not limited to: Under supervision performs routine manual labor, maintenance, and repair tasks while learning to perform a full range of semi-skilled work required in maintenance, repair, operations and construction of related facilities, parks, and services; performs other duties as assigned. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list that may be used to fill future vacancies in the City’s Urban Forestry, Parks, Streets, Collections and Building Maintenance Divisions. Eligible lists may be valid for up to twelve months. Completion of the supplemental questionnaire is required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent. EXPERIENCE: Maintenance Worker I: One (1) year of experience performing manual labor in public works, recreation, building, janitorial, landscape, grounds maintenance, or construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, related to the assigned area of division. Maintenance Worker II: Two (2) years of experience performing manual labor in public works, recreation, building, janitorial, landscape, grounds maintenance, or construction, comparable to those of a Maintenance Worker I in the City of Patterson, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, related to the assigned area or division. Maintenance Worker III: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in related construction and maintenance work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License. Possession of a valid California Class B commercial driver's license within one (1) year of appointment, that must be maintained as a condition of continued employment, all divisions except Building Maintenance. Maintenance Worker II: In addition to the above: Possession of a current Qualified Applicator Certificate in Categories B (Landscape Maintenance) and C (Right of Way) issued by the State of California Department of Food and Agriculture is desirable. Maintenance Worker III: In addition to the above: Possession of a current Qualified Applicator Certificate in Categories B (Landscape Maintenance) and C (Right of Way) issued by the State of California Department of Food and Agriculture. DESIRABLE SKILLS: A strong background in landscape maintenance to include lawn care, irrigation systems, pruning, playground safety inspection, installation and repair, and herbicide application. Certified Landscape Technician (CLT), California Certified Nursery Professional (CCNP), Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) or Pesticide Applicator License (QAL,QAC) is a plus.
