Position Announcement

Responsible for catering operations including coordinating and overseeing the catering team in a structured and daily routine to ensure the highest standards are met within all aspects of catering including food hygiene regulation, guest experience, campus partnerships, marketing efforts, and financial management. Assists the Campus Dining Services Director and Executive Chef with the vision and strategy for campus catering and other areas of Dining Services as appropriate. Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages daily catering operations including event scheduling and execution, staff scheduling, training, and marketing.
  • Ensures quality standards are maintained at all times by making sure security, safety, and sanitation standards are achieved.
  • Employs good safety and sanitation practices.
  • Develops operational systems and procedures by determining product handling and storage requirements; including receiving products, equipment utilization, inventory management, and event transportation.
  • Troubleshoots issues and thinks quickly to manage all potential service recovery aspects.
  • Listens to clients and translates their requests/ideas into executable events.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with students, campus constituents, team members, and other clients.
  • Communicates any service issues to the Dining Services Director and Executive Chef.
  • Supports team members by providing the tools necessary to complete their jobs including scheduling, training and communications.
  • Fosters a positive work environment that boosts morale and productivity, and improves communication between managers, clients, and University constituents.
  • Supports the financial outcomes and profit goals as set by the Dining Services Director and/or Executive Chef.
  • Assists in the control of all catering inventories, product costs, product purchasing, and assists with regular auditing of inventory.
  • Partners with other Dining Services staff to ensure flawless execution of all events and creating marketing strategies and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED plus two (2) years of college education or vocational/technical post-secondary education required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • At least two (2) years' related food and beverage management experience required; experience working in a catering environment preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of food service practices and procedures; experience in supervising a group of employees responsible for food preparation/customer service/retail preferred.
  • Ability to train personnel on effective and safe use of cooking equipment required.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter, and able to manage multiple projects concurrently. Experience scheduling a large group of individuals across multiple days/weeks and multiple job areas preferred.
  • Computer skills in University operating systems preferred (word processing, email, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to organize events and associated workload requirements for staff.
  • Experience communicating and scheduling plans and assignments while working with employees on staffing requirements and making adjustments as required; projecting staffing requirements while adhering to a personnel/labor budget preferred.
  • Good knowledge of tools and equipment used in institutional cooking (Combi Oven, Blast Chiller, Steam Jacketed Kettle, Mixer, Proofer, Oven, Fryer, Grill, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, students, and guests.
  • Current ServSafe certification or ability to successfully complete course within six months of hire.
  • Must be able to work variable hours; completion of franchise food service training program preferred.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time non-exempt staff (overtime-eligible) position. Annual salary of $45,000-$50,000 with a desired start date of January/February 2026.
