Overview

This is a hybrid role, with the expectation that time working will regularly take place inside and outside of a company office.

First Citizens Bank offers an exciting summer internship program that provides development opportunities and hands on work experience while creating a talent pipeline for the Bank. Our interns will apply classroom knowledge in a corporate environment while making a positive impact across the organization and the communities we serve. The Complaints Management Department is responsible for 2nd line of defense oversight relating to the investigation, response, and resolution of complaints from customers, prospective customers, and relevant third parties, providing guidance to the 1st line of defense as necessary to ensure complaints are responded to accordingly.

In 2026, the bank will be enhancing complaint processes. In turn, the Complaints team will be enhancing its own program, including reporting on potential risk factors and data gaps, as required for 2nd line oversight.

Below are some skillsets a student intern must possess to be successful this coming summer:

  1. A student intern who has both data analysis/management experience and who can and develop repeatable steps for monitoring, developing procedures in MS Word
  2. Someone who is comfortable collaborating and has excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to review systems and documentation to validate data integrity
  3. One who possesses strong knowledge of MS Word in order to support compliance in developing monitoring procedures, and a proficiency in Excel/analytics, with the ability to manipulate large data sets for analysis
  4. A student with excellent verbal and written skills, who is comfortable with presentations and communicating research findings to all levels of personnel

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

* Be part of a dynamic team with interesting projects.

* Accountabilities can and may include areas such as research, analytics, projects, strategy, process review and improvement, as well as technology enhancements and support.

* Attend professional development sessions, informational sessions, networking and community service events.

* Have a dedicated manager and program manager to help you navigate the bank and the internship program.

* Be assigned a project, designed to improve a specific process or solve a problem that you will present at the close of the internship.

* Prepare a wrap-up presentation to be shared with the division leader and other key stakeholders in the company to outline your accomplishments and experience during the internship

Internship dates: 5/27/2026 - 7/31/2026


Qualifications

* High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of experience

* Currently enrolled at an accredited collegiate institution (during the time of the summer program)

* Ability to work 40 hours per week during the duration of the program

Preferred Qualifications

* 3.0 minimum GPA

* Strong desire to learn and grow

* Currently pursing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Mathematics, Analytics, Economics, Political Science, Marketing, or other applicable degree

* Possess a positive attitude, naturally curious and enjoys collaborating with others

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Critical and creative thinking skills

* Ability to multitask

* Positive, 'can do', growth mindset

* Strong MS Office skills, particular emphasis on Excel and PowerPoint

* Ability to adapt and adjust priorities based on business needs

* Ability to take direction and absorb information quickly

The hourly pay for this position is generally between $18.70 and $28.60. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
