How You'll Help Transform Healthcare:Plans, develops, presents and evaluates community health education programs and activities held in the communities served by Carilion Clinic.
Coordinates education, outreach, collaboration, and communication among youth-serving organizations as it relates to teen pregnancy prevention and other youth risk behavior topics.
Provides health education directly to the community at large, primarily through planned programs, fairs and screening events. Functions as a team member to advance Carilions Clinics goals through health education skills and by serving as a resource on community health education issues. Works with minimal direction and uses discretion when communicating screening results.
Plans, develops and coordinates activities to educate members of the community on health and safety issues. Activities include health screenings, health fairs, presentations, SafeKids Coalition initiatives, and attendance at events sponsored by Carilion Clinic or other community service organizations. Presents educational programs on a wide variety of community education topics as requested, to include Women and Heart Disease, Early Response, Breast Health, Smoking Cessation, Child Safety, Stress, Nutrition and Physical Activity. Utilizes approved community education teaching aids to assist in the presentation of material dependent on the age and knowledge base of the audience. Evaluates educational programs and activities including reporting community contacts made during events. Provides community benefit information and encourages others within Carilion Clinic to collect and report relevant data. Collaborates with other Carilion Clinic departments, hospitals and community service organizations to align initiatives that improve the health of our community with current Clinic goals. Examples include coordinating community presentations by our physicians, assisting Occupational Medicine with employer requests, and serving on community agency task forces/boards/councils as requested. Enhances professional development through participation in continuing educational programs, conferences and by reading current professional literature. Stays current on screening and healthy lifestyle recommendations. Represents Carilion Clinic through positive interaction with the community and media to increase awareness of health issues and the programs Carilion Clinic offers to the general public. Facilitates collaboration and communication among programs and agencies in the City of Roanoke and surrounding jurisdictions as relates to teen pregnancy prevention and other risk factors for adolescents. Works consistently with administration and staff in Salem City, Roanoke City, Roanoke County, and other area school systems to plan and implement Family Life Education for students in 4th-10th grades. Assists the SHARE Collaborative, Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Department, and the City of Roanoke and adolescent service providers in evaluating current adolescent services, collects and analyzes available data, including but not limited to Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS), develops new assessment tools as appropriate. Prepares and submits required grant proposals; required progress reports, and seeks funding opportunities for projects related to adolescent health services.
What We Require:
Education: Bachelors Degree in community health education, public health education, health and physical education, or nursing or 8 years of experience required. Masters Degree preferred. Experience: Three years of professional experience required. Prefer demonstration of public health education background and skills. Licensure/certification: AHA BLS-HCP required. Eligible to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam within the first year of employment preferred. Virginia Drivers License required. Other Minimum Qualifications: Ability to educate clients of any age or SES level on community health education. Well-organized, proficient at multi-tasking and working with minimal direction. Must possess excellent organizational skills and proficiency in written and verbal communication. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications highly desirable. Job often requires working outside Carilion Clinic facilities and travel to sites within the Clinics service area. Must provide own transportation. Recruiter: DANA JOHNSON
