Department: 6th Floor - Medical/Surgical Location: Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital, 2333 Biddle Ave, Wyandotte, MI 48192 Schedule:36 hours per week, every other weekend and holiday rotation Shift:7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (3x12 hours shifts) General Summary: Must be enrolled in HFHS Department of Labor (DOL) approved apprenticeship program. Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN) and/or licensed clinician, performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Provides input to assist the RN and/or licensed clinician in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. The Nurse Assistant Apprentice follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions. About Our Unit: Our 48-bed Medical Surgical Unit cares for patients through many different phases of their healthcare journey. You'll work alongside a skilled and compassionate team supporting patients with a wide range of needs - from post-surgical recovery to treatment for acute infectious diseases requiring IV antibiotics, to management of chronic conditions during flare-ups. We also provide dignified, compassionate care for patients and families during end-of-life support. What You'll Do: Your day-to-day impact includes:
- Performing routine tasks such as measuring and recording vital signs, collecting and labeling specimens including blood draws, and performing venipuncture and chemsticks.
- Assisting with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges as directed by the RN.
- Providing compassionate, hands-on personal care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility, and comfort.
- Communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support seamless care delivery.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
Education/Experience Required: To qualify, you'll need a high school diploma or equivalent and one of the following:
- Completion of a Nurse Assistant program (titles may vary: Patient Care Technician (PCT), Patient Assistant Technician (PAT)).
- Enrollment in a nursing program with completed Fundamentals of Nursing.
- Foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license
- Medical Assistant program (with or without experience).
- At least one (1) year of experience in a Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Tech, or Patient Assistant Tech, or similar job role.
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) preferred
Certifications/Licensures Required:
- Complete BLS Heart Saver Certification during orientation.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
- Physical ability to lift and move patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Works in patient care area environments, which may include exposure to communicable diseases, unpleasant odors, acute patient conditions, potential exposure to infection, and hazardous gases.
