This position will report to the Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting and will have responsibility for preparation of Ingevity's consolidated financial statements and data reported both internally and externally. This includes the responsibility for preparing the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) Form 8-Ks, 10-Qs and 10-Ks financial filings using Workiva reporting software. The Form 10-Q and 10-K preparation responsibility includes maintaining accurate extension Business Reporting Language (XBRL) data tagging using Workiva as well as maintaining controls and documentation surrounding external reporting and U.S. GAAP compliance.

This position will also have responsibility for the preparation and reporting of significant technical accounting items on a monthly and quarterly basis, including diluted earnings per share calculations, and pension accounting. This position in conjunction with the Director of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting will have the responsibility of maintaining Ingevity's internal Financial Accounting Standards and the education/training of Ingevity finance personnel to ensure compliance with the Standards. In addition, this position will have responsibility for the preparation and reporting of Ingevity's employee benefit plan U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and SEC financial statements as well as to coordinate with Human Resources and Legal departments in order to complete the required Form 5500s for all of the Ingevity's benefit plans.

This position will also take part in the timely and effective research and implementation of any changes in both accounting and disclosure arising from pronouncements of various rule making bodies, including the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the SEC. The activities of these rule-making bodies will significantly impact Ingevity's external financial reports and internal financial reporting of the Ingevity's operations which directly impact the results of the Ingevity.

This position will also take part in the continued implementation, design, operation, and testing of Ingevity's internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) globally.

How you will impact Ingevity:

Financial Reporting

  • Assist with the timely and accurate preparation of SEC filings. This includes the audited financial and footnote disclosures as well as compliance with all SEC Item requirements and Management, Discussion & Analysis. Also ensuring earnings release documents support the earnings call script and additional needs of the Investor Relations team.
  • Participate in and help develop SEC and disclosure training of Ingevity's finance team including the Corporate Controller's department.
  • Responsible for maintaining the accuracy of XBRL tagging within Workiva for Ingevity's Form 10-Ks and 10-Qs.
  • Responsible for the preparation and reconciliation of accounting and disclosures for the Ingevity's employee benefit plans.
  • Prepare and review journal entries for monthly and quarterly closing, including but not limited to revenue recognition, rebates, and commissions.
  • Analyze, reconcile and review balance sheet account reconciliations.

Technical Accounting

  • Will participate in the research of accounting literature and application of technical accounting standards and analysis to complex or non-recurring business issues and transactions (including acquisitions and dispositions)
  • Will assist in the development and evaluation of company accounting policies by monitoring the activities of all accounting standard setting bodies, including FASB, SEC and PCAOB, and evaluating the accounting and reporting impact of new standards, including development of new accounting policies and coordination of adoption of accounting standards
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating when considered necessary Ingevity's Company-wide Financial Standards.
  • Responsible for the preparation and reporting of Ingevity's employee benefit plans as required by the DOL and SEC as well as to coordinate with Human Resources and Legal departments in order to complete the required Form 5500s for all of the Ingevity's benefit plans.

Internal Controls

  • Perform and review accounting and reporting-related SOX controls.
  • Monitor and assist in ensuring the integrity of controls over the external reporting process to ensure compliance with the regulations resulting from the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)
  • Maintain objective evidence for SOX 404 compliance and assist with developing corrective actions, when required.
  • Collaborate with internal business partners and stakeholders (e.g. Finance, Business Units, Internal Audit, Compliance, etc.) to continually evaluate and improve control practices
  • Evaluate control deficiencies and track remediation to completion; Identify key Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICOFR) risks and mitigation strategies

What you need to succeed:

  • CPA or active pursuit of CPA is required
  • 4+ years of Big Four (or similar) experience is preferred
  • 4-6 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting principles and financial statement preparing required
  • Knowledge of manufacturing accounting preferred
  • Public accounting experience is preferred
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization.
  • Technical accounting experience with focus in equity and employee benefit accounting is required
  • Working knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Excellent Excel skills
  • Prior SEC reporting experience is a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work under time pressure
  • Experience with Workiva SEC filing tool is a plus

Working Format: This role follows a hybrid schedule based at our North Charleston, SC headquarters.
