About the Job

*Duties/responsibilities:
-Lead and conduct advanced experimental and translational research on the development of temperature-controlled systems for organ and tissue preservation, with an emphasis on clinical translation and application (55%).
-Perform data analysis, presentation preparation, manuscript writing, and contribution to grant proposals (20%).
-Mentor junior researchers, students, and technicians, providing technical training and guidance in experimental design (10%).
-Support laboratory organization, safety, and protocol management (10%).
-Collaborate across multiple interdisciplinary teams within the ATP-Bio Engineering Research Center and affiliated labs (5%).

This position is not eligible for H-1B visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

*Required qualifications include:
-PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field.
-Demonstrated expertise in thermal modulation, such as hyperthermia-based or temperature-controlled therapeutic systems.
-Documented experience in small animal surgery and translational research, including tissue handling, microsurgery, and in vivo model development.
-Proficiency in molecular and cellular biology techniques (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, flow cytometry, histology, fluorescence imaging).
-Proven record of first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals within nanomedicine, drug delivery, or bioheat-related applications.
-Ability and willingness to work with biological specimens, including cells, tissues, and organs.
-Demonstrated success collaborating in multidisciplinary teams that integrate engineering, biological, and clinical science.

*Preferred qualifications include:
-Familiarity with thermal medicine, cryobiology, and organ/tissue preservation technologies.
-Experience with temperature-responsive or hyperthermia-triggered therapeutic systems.
-Hands-on experience using animal models of cancer or organ injury, including imaging-based assessment of biological responses.
-Comprehensive understanding of organ physiology and pathophysiology, particularly renal, hepatic, or pulmonary systems.
-Medical degree (MD or equivalent) preferred, particularly with experience in translational or surgical research.
-Proven ability to mentor and train students, coordinate collaborative experiments, and contribute to manuscript preparation.
-Interest in translational and preclinical research bridging benchtop discovery to clinical applications.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has an internationally recognized faculty, and is part of the College of Science and Engineering, the highly interdisciplinary college of engineering, physical sciences, and mathematics.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $64,000 - $68,000 annual salary; depending on education/qualifications/experience
