This role encompasses the direction and oversight of the manufacture and distribution of packaged and bulk gases within the assigned area. Key responsibilities include coordinating maintenance, safety, compliance, capital expenditures, and Operations budgeting.

A significant part of the role involves regularly visiting plant facilities to conduct audits and support continuous improvement in industry and procedural knowledge and efficiency. Furthermore, this position is responsible for providing support and training to Airgas plant facilities on Standard Operating Procedures, Intranet tools, Dock Stock, CU processes, and essential computer software applications used in daily plant operations.

  • Manage all operations personnel, including managers of plant facilities and distribution, through effective hiring, training, motivation, performance management, and issue resolution to meet or exceed assigned targets.

  • Plan production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing.

  • Review production orders and schedules to gather necessary product data (types, quantities, specifications, delivery dates) to plan efficient, cost-effective operations that meet customer needs and satisfaction goals.

  • Track and analyze operations metrics for each plant to set performance goals and measure results against established standards.

  • Oversee and assist with the monthly cylinder inventory process.

  • Work with Plant Managers and Distribution Managers to develop or revise standard operational and working practices, observing workers to ensure compliance.

  • Resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems promptly to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

  • Work with the region safety officer to coordinate procedures required for compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, FDA, and state regulations.

  • Collaborate with the sales department to swiftly resolve customer issues.

Required Qualifications:

    • 10+ years experience in the bulk/gas industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a production environment in a chemical, gas or related industry is required.

    • Ability to travel 50% of the time is required.

    • Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future. This position is not open for non-immigrant visa sponsorship.

    • Applicable knowledge of federal/state regulations and compliance such as OSHA, FDA, DOT, EPA is required.

    • Gases, related hardgoods, truck and trailer loading limits, cylinder markings, test dates, pressure ratings, placarding, and hazardous material classifications is required.

    • Accident reporting, safety, and compliance is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in engineering, chemistry or related field is preferred

    • DOT driver qualifications and record keeping is preferred.

    • Vehicle purchasing and maintenance requirements is preferred.

    • Understanding of the Airgas Gulf Coast Region's Standard Operating Procedures Manual (SOP's), Human Resources Manual, Safety Management System, and CU Reference Manual is preferred.

    • Prior SAP and Power BI experience is preferred

    • Prior forklift experience is preferred.
