Essential Job Duties
The SE CASC Assistant Consortium Director provides support for the mission of the Southeast Climate Adaptation Science Center (SE CASC) through high-level program management and coordination. In addition to working closely with the University Director of the consortium, you will support other members of the consonsortium which includes approximately over 170 faculty affiliates, 10 Consortium Institutions, and 12 Global Change Research Fellows (graduate students) per year. You'll also have opportunities to collaborate nationally with other Assistant University Directors, University Directors, Federal Directors, and Deputies through regular conference calls, workshops, and trainings.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

Leadership & Strategic Vision:

  • Works closely with the Consortium Director and the Federal Regional Administrator to provide oversight of SE CASC research, capacity building, and long-term mission.
  • Builds relationships across the university and with Consortium institutions throughout the Southeast and nationally.
  • Serves as a liaison with NC State University Government Relations and the CASC governmental committee.
  • Represents the SE CASC in regional and national meetings relevant to the Assistant Consortium Director.
  • Provide assistance with grant proposals and budgeting.


Administrative:

  • Provides support to SE CASC research projects idea call, including developing the annual application portal, organizing a review panel, reviewing proposals, and facilitating project kickoff.
  • Coordinates meetings and activities of the SE CASC Consortium, including Consortium Leadership calls and Consortium convenings.
  • University budget and subaward funding stream management.
  • Develops and maintains a science projects database and tracking.
  • Co-organizes a bi-annual regional science symposium of 150-200 attendees.
  • Facilitates meetings with Working Groups, Project Leads, Federal Scientists, and other stakeholders.
  • Coordinates annual reporting as required by the funding agency.

Direct Reports and Student Support:

  • Provides support to the 10-14 annual Global Change Research Fellows, including reviewing applications of potential candidates, guiding, mentoring, and assisting in the graduate students' skills-building seminars, research, and presentations, and assists with the week-long field intensive course.
  • Supervises full-time SE CASC staff, including the Project Manager, Communications and Engagement Manager, and temporary staff.
  • Co-mentors postdoctoral research scholars.

The position is contingent upon annual funding of the SE CASC cooperative agreement.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in any field relevant to the SE CASC, including but not limited to the natural, physical, or social sciences or education, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
Other Required Qualifications

  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and agencies.
  • Desire to work in a team setting and facilitate research, synthesis, and education.
  • Demonstration of leadership and administration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in any field relevant to the SE CASC, including but not limited to the natural, physical, or social sciences or education.
  • Skilled in program management, coordination, and preparing both technical and narrative reports.
  • Experienced in budgeting, financial reporting, and tracking research projects.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor staff and students.
  • Experienced in planning and hosting regional meetings and events.
