As a Patient Benefits Representative, you will educate patients on their insurance coverage and benefits, as well as any financial assistance programs that are available to them.


Responsibilities

Experiences that matter...

  • You understand the specific needs of your patients and can walk them through their insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.
  • In conversations with patients, coworkers and other professionals, you will provide excellent customer service by rolling out the red carpet to meet their needs through communicating respectfully and thoroughly listening to all shared details.
  • Having the ability and drive to advocate for our patients allows you to maintain relationships with current foundations as well as seek out any other foundations in order to provide assistance for our patients.
  • Your attention to detail allows you to help patients complete financial forms and documentation and forward the information to the correct department.
  • Your go-getter work ethic will have you ready to jump in and help out with any additional tasks.

For your safety, keep this in mind:

  • This position will require standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Any lifting should be limited to 40 pounds or less.
  • You will need manual dexterity, proper hand-eye coordination, full range of motion to possibly assist with lifting patients, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Qualifications

We feel this position requires these basics:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required with a proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • You may or may not be bilingual with previous oncology/hematology experience, but either of those qualifications would be a major benefit to you in this position.
  • You either live in the Johnson City area or are in the process of relocating. This role is fully onsite.
  • Lastly, we feel that you will be most successful with at least three years of related healthcare experience required, including diagnosis and treatment plans as well as one year of experience with medical billing, reimbursement, and insurance plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum three (3) years patient pre-services coordinator or equivalent required. Proficiency with computer systems and MicroSoft Office (Word and Excel) required. -Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPS coding application. -Must be able to verbally communicate clearly and utilize the appropriate and correct terminology. -Must successfully complete required e-learning courses within 90 days of occupying position. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be present at the employee site during regularly scheduled business hours and regularly required to sit or stand and talk or hear. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment. Work will involve in-person interaction with co-workers and management and/or clients. Work may require minimal travel by automobile to office sites.
