Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Solder Assembler for a second-shift position (Monday-Thursday, 3:30 PM-2:00 AM EST). The ideal candidate will possess advanced skills in both surface-mount technology (SMT) and through-hole soldering. This role involves performing complex assembly, rework, and repair of printed circuit boards (PCBs), including bottom-terminated components such as QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs. The Solder Assembler will utilize specialized rework and inspection equipment to ensure the highest quality standards are met in all production and repair processes. Job Responsibilities
Assemble high-mix, low-volume SMT and through-hole components on complex PCBs
Remove, replace, and repair bottom-terminated components (QFNs, BGAs, LGAs) using hot-air pencils, hot plates, and other precision rework tools
Perform controlled reflow, preheat, and cooling cycles according to thermal profiles and component specifications
Operate and maintain X-ray inspection equipment to evaluate solder joints and verify workmanship quality
Interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate component placement and orientation
Conduct in-process quality checks, including visual, AOI, and X-ray inspections, documenting all results in compliance with quality standards
Diagnose and correct solder-related defects such as tombstoning, voids, or solder bridges
Maintain ESD-controlled environments and adhere to all safety, quality, and compliance procedures
Participate in continuous improvement efforts, recommending process or tooling enhancements
Work under a microscope for extended periods to inspect and assemble precision PCB components
Job Requirements
Advanced proficiency in SMT and through-hole soldering techniques
Demonstrated experience with component rework, including QFNs, BGAs, and LGAs
Skilled in using hot-air rework tools, microscopes, and X-ray inspection systems
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and BOMs
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Excellent manual dexterity and ability to work with small components for extended durations
Familiarity with ESD and IPC standards (IPC-A-610 certification preferred)
Ability to work independently and follow detailed work instructions
Willingness to work the designated second shift schedule
