GENERAL SUMMARY:

Manages resources and delegates tasks/responsibilities as appropriate to optimize achievement of unit scope and department objectives. Promotes retention of staff through recognition and promotion of teamwork. Ensures optimal care coordination through daily interaction and role modeling. Supports and facilitates a collaborative relationship between medical staff and hospital staff.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Serves in a leadership capacity promoting and role modeling highly effective interpersonal relationships.

3. Utilizes the findings from quality improvement efforts to enhance care coordination and customer satisfaction of physicians, patients and families.

4. Assists the Manager in staffing the department for safe and efficient care coordination.

5. Assists the Manager in the process of interviewing and hiring staff for the department. Promotes the recognition and retention of staff, contributes to the staff's performance appraisal process and assists with rounding as directed by manager.

6. *Ensures that existing policies and procedures are adhered to during daily interactions with staff.

7. *Works collaboratively with other personnel to resolve issues related to staffing, care coordination and physician/family concerns.

8. Assists and supports the Manager with communicating and implementing unit/area changes.

9. *Coordinates, supports and facilitates new employee orientation and student programs; communicates education and/or competency needs of staff with the Manager.

10. *Keeps the Manager informed of day-to-day operational needs/issues.

11. *Objectively and constructively coaches staff as appropriate when practice and/or safety issues are observed or reported; communicates with the Manager regarding response to proper guidance or adherence to standards.

12. *Assumes assignments on a daily basis to support volume or acuity changes or during increased staffing demand.

13. Assists in the development of procedures related to educational programming, system process and usage.

14. Acts as a departmental liaison in building and improving relations with other entities and departments.

15. Assists with development and validation processes for competencies.

16. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

17. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

18. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of patient principles and methods.

2. Knowledge of quality management and performance improvement philosophies and practices.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.

4. Skill in constructive problem solving and conflict resolution.

5. Skill in coaching and mentoring other members of the team.

6. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

7. Ability to schedule, mentor, train and counsel employees regarding work responsibilities and clinical performance.

8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with all levels of personnel, medical staff and ancillary department including diverse patient populations.

9. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

10. Ability to lead an interdisciplinary team in an effective and efficient manner.

11. Ability to manage change and work within an intense work environment.

12. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

13. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residency as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Applicable Specialty Certification from an approved credentialing body in area of practice preferred. Minimum of three (3) years recent clinical experience in area of assigned specialty (Outpatient clinics, Cardiology, Orthopedics, other). Prior charge or lead experience preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS /CERTIFICATIONS

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
