POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, a Division I and Big Ten Conference Institution, is seeking a High Performance Specialist. This position exists within the High Performance Department and reports to the Associate Director for High Performance. The purpose of this position is to provide support for Penn State's 31 varsity sports by assisting in the development of student-athlete health and performance.

Responsibilities & Duties include:

  • Support assigned sport teams in the daily management of performance technologies, data collection, data analysis and research.
  • Collaborate with the athletic department's sports performance team (Athletic Training, Athletic Performance, Performance Nutrition, and Wellness/Therapy Services) in formulating actionable solutions to relevant performance problems.
  • Regularly communicate and present solutions and best practices to coaching staff / sports performance team.
  • Assist in the management of performance technologies and athlete management system.
  • Assist in the education of student-athletes regarding recovery strategies, performance optimization, and overall wellness.
  • Coordinate research efforts and collaborate with university's academic departments and industry partners to help develop best-practice, vet emerging technologies, and provide innovative approaches to student-athlete health and performance.
  • Assist in managing and supervising the department's internship program.
  • Assist in management and maintenance of Sports Performance Lab.
  • Assist in recruiting efforts of assigned teams.
  • Be an active driver in growing the scope and presence of High Performance at Penn State University.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to cultivate and function as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong understanding of the application of various performance technologies (Ex: GPS, force plate, heart rate, motion capture).
  • Data analysis skills (Ex: Excel, Power BI, R, Python).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience reporting performance data back to sport coaches and providing actionable insights.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in kinesiology, sports science, exercise physiology, biomechanics or a related field plus year of related experience.
  • Experience at an NCAA institution, professional sports organization, and/or other elite sporting institutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in kinesiology, sports science, exercise physiology, biomechanics, or related field.
  • Relevant accreditation (NSCA, CPSS, CSCCa, UKSCA, ASCA, etc.).
  • Experience coaching, teaching, or leading groups.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Ex: R, Python, SQL, MatLab.
  • Background in applied or academic research.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $42,100.00 - $61,000.00.
