Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Team Lead to join the Business Services Office, part of the Division of Enrollment Management within the Office of the Chancellor. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Business Services, this position will work in close collaboration with the One Stop Student Services Center and key departments such as Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, and Academic Advising, the Business Services Office supports a seamless student experience by providing integrated financial services, resolving complex cases, and enhancing financial literacy and retention.
The Business Services Office plays a critical role in supporting student success by delivering high-quality, student-centered services that ensure equitable access to education and financial wellness. This office serves as the centralized hub for managing financial interactions between students and the university while maintaining strict compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. The unit reports directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Budget and Financial Planning.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:
- Serves as the subject matter expert and operational supervisor for the Business Services functional area within the RU-N One Stop Service Center
- Leads a team delivering high-quality support in student accounting, term bill assistance, financial aid disbursement, collections counseling, and cashiering services
- Knowledgeable in university policies, state regulations, and federal laws governing tuition, fees, billing, payment plans, and refunds
- Plays a leadership role in:
- Training and development
- Quality assurance
- Case management and resolution
- Customer service excellence
- Strategic planning and compliance oversight
- Acts as a liaison between One Stop and central university offices (e.g., Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, Academic Services)
- Supports continuous improvement initiatives and service innovation aligned with the unit's mission
- Establishes performance standards, conducts evaluations, and has authority to hire, train, and manage professional staff
- Operates independently, with broadly defined objectives and limited direct oversight
- Applies professional knowledge in areas such as accounting, finance, student financial services, and compliance
- Maintains an advanced understanding of student information systems and collaborates with technical and functional partners to resolve issues
- Monitors and responds to the operational calendar and peak service periods, ensuring proactive solutions and efficient support delivery

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of office administration, work organization, coordination, facilitation, bookkeeping, and/or report writing principles and practices
- Also requires a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in a program coordination or administrative function that includes coordination of work and management of people; good communication skills; and computer literacy
- Also requires a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience and strong interpersonal and organizational skills

- Knowledge of cashiering techniques and collection
- Sensitive to cultural diversity and able to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
- Proven ability to work effectively as a team member
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions
- Ability to utilize good judgment when auditing student records to determine if a refund or additional billing is necessary

Preferred Qualifications |
- Two or more years of experience in student accounting, accounts receivable experiences and or financial aid, registration
- Some experience within higher education student services
- Knowledge of Rutgers University systems that include Oracle Cloud Financial Management System, Tableau, Salesforce (CRM), but are not limited to, IMS, Financial Aid Management System (FAMS), NSLDS, E-Administrator (HESAA), and ImageNow
