Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate I within the Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Department at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
The primary purpose of the Research Associate I position is to, under the direction of the PI, perform technical research activities and assist in the conduct of highly specialized research in cancer biology. The Research Associate I will be responsible for training graduate students and/or technicians. This position will provide essential support in the White lab, by conducting research investigations into the characterization of host metabolic alterations in cancer cachexia development. The Research Associate I will analyze the interplay between metabolism and immune system in cancer progression using mouse models. The Research Associate I will also perform research, experiments, and laboratory techniques of a specialized nature under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and will draft written reports for inclusion in manuscripts. In addition, the Research Associate I will contribute to the PI's grant proposals, as well as write grant proposals on her/his own.

Among the key duties for this position are the following:

  • Conducts research experiments independently, or as assigned, to understand the role and mechanisms of metabolic pathways as well as the interplay between metabolism and immune system to unveil new therapeutic strategies.
  • Works with mouse models in vivo and perform metabolomics, proteomics, and genomic analyses.
  • Generates, compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions, recommendations, etc. pertinent to research activity. Writes grant applications, fellowships, annual progress reports and manuscripts. Reviews and analyzes scientific data, scientific reports, publications and other documents pertaining to current research developments. Gives oral presentations of the research at lab meetings and conferences. Functions as scientific consultant in areas pertaining to specific expertise.
  • Conducts a continuous program of research and development regarding the analytical and instrumentation functions of the laboratory, constantly evaluates existing procedures where required to keep methodology and procedures current. As requested, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the department.
  • Responsible for guiding and teaching research technicians, graduate students, postdoctoral associates and laboratory manager on laboratory administration and set up. Assists with the instructing and training of students, fellows, technicians, and laboratory assistants as required.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • PhD degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, Cell Biology, or a relevant science plus two (2) years of related research experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective oral and communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
