POSITION SPECIFICS

The College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at Penn State is seeking two instructional designers to join the Office of Learning Design.

Our college fosters an inclusive and diverse community engaged in innovative interdisciplinary education, research, and service. We prepare leading professionals and scholars who leverage technology and critical thinking to address the complex challenges of an information society. IST is a destination for those who want to advance inclusive, ethical, and value-based discovery at the intersection of people, information, and technology while creatively developing solutions for a sustainable future.

The Office of Learning Design provides services for courses delivered in-residence, online, and in other formats.Our instructional designers collaborate with faculty on the design, revision, and delivery of courses across multiple modalities.We offer faculty development in a variety of formats and venues. Our team contributes to the larger community at Penn State and beyond through developing strategic partnerships and leading critical projects and committees.

Successful candidates will work closely with faculty and staff to create high-quality learning experiences that promote student success, effectively integrate instructional technologies, and meet accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to identify and consult on instructional goals and objectives, partnering on the design, development, and revision of learning structures, activities, and assessments to align teaching strategies and content with desired learning outcomes.

  • Apply learning science principles to create effective, engaging, and inclusive learning experiences.

  • Promote accessibility, inclusivity, and usability in instructional materials and learning environments.

  • Research and apply pedagogical practices, academic trends, and emerging educational technologies to support high-quality instructional design.

  • Develop and integrate instructional media and technology to enhance teaching and learning and ensure their effective use.

  • Design and evaluate assessments and learning experiences that measure student achievement, inform course improvement, and incorporate feedback.

  • Support faculty professional development in the areas of teaching, technology integration, and course design.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

If filled as Instructional Designer - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None If filled as Instructional Designer - Intermediate Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 1+ years of relevant experience Required Certifications: None

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and productivity, as well as familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), accessibility standards and remediation, and quality frameworks (e.g., Quality Matters) is desirable.

Optional Information

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $51,000.00 - $81,500.00.
