Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Assistant I for Mason Gross School of the Arts ( MGSA). Reporting to the Business Analyst III Supervisor, this position provides support in the areas of budget, accounting, planning, and operational activities.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Tracks and reconciles MGSA budgets and expenditures, ensuring compliance with MGSA and University policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Assists with analyzing revenues and expenditures, developing budget proposals and projections, and executing closing processes.
  • Handles reconciling, budgeting, database management, and accounting.
  • Processes a variety of business transactions, including, but not limited to, journal entries, project cost adjustments, corrections, and requisitions.
  • Prepares and analyzes data and reports. Liaison for University's accounting, budgeting, and purchases areas in resolving issues and general matters.
  • Ensures efficient and effective policy dissemination, application, and compliance.
  • Performs professional work requiring an excellent knowledge of GAAP as well as a good understanding and application of concepts, theories, and practices of accounting; as well as specific knowledge of MGSA and University policies, procedures, processes, and systems.
  • Handles and prioritizes multiple tasks and to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the University community.
  • Carries out routine and semi-routine work within work parameters for the unit and under general supervision.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in fast-paced, customer service-focused, confidential environment consistent with an understanding of the mission, vision, role, and goals of the Dean's Office, MGSA, and RU, and the role the tasks and responsibilities of the position play in the achievement of these goals.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field plus two (2) years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience demonstrating knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
