Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Business Assistant II for the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy ( BSPP) - Dean's Office. Reporting to the Director of Business, Sr Exec Director of the Center for Urban Policy Research ( CUPR), and the CUPR Associate Director, the Business Assistant II helps to provide accounting and budget support to Directors, Principal Investigators, and research staff.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Works with individual PI's on grant submission preparation (pre-award).
  • Works with guidance to collect documentation for submission and especially grant budget development.
  • Monitors grants post-award working with guidance on subcontract and consultation agreements and reconciling grant accounts including troubleshooting using university reports and resources. Prepares PI reports and helping to build funder interim reports and close out reports.
  • Handles day to day accounting support, purchasing, payroll, hourly student submissions and bill payment functions.
  • Supports creation of financial reports and analysis and financial adjustments (salary adjustments, commitment adjustments and corrections as needed.
  • Handles support of IRB submissions (i.e., submissions in the eIRB system as well as overseeing correspondence between center staff and IRB administrators.)
  • Supports faculty as they develop and submit proposals through the University systems.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good communication skills and computer literacy.
  • Ability to accomplish multiple tasks within a reasonable time frame with emphasis on prioritizing tasks with time constraints.
  • Computer literacy and intermediate to expert ability in Excel with an interest in learning database management.
  • Must be flexible, enthusiastic, and ambitious.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Rutgers systems.

  • RAPSS, reporting tools (ORACLE) and financial reports.
  • Cornerstone, HCM, Concur, etc.
