Basic Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 5+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 3 years of job-related experience. Agile experience preferred.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for an Advanced Systems Engineer - Development Project Engineer (DPE). This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
The Advanced Systems Engineer - DPE role is responsible for planning, monitoring, and organizing engineering resources required to design, procure, build, test and document new developments and modification to existing products. For the purposes of program execution, this position will report directly to the DPME.
The Advanced Systems Engineer - DPE supplements the existing leadership team including DPME and IPT leads. He/She will focus on cross-functional handovers through collecting/tracking metrics or other artifacts and ensuring tasking is correctly reflected and accomplished in the IMS (including risk mitigation). He/She meets with the IPT leads to review status of these handovers to ensure they are on track and any issues are understood in advance. The IPT's are focused on their product in conjunction with the Advanced Systems Engineer to ensure an understanding of upstream and downstream needs, impacts and dependencies.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Participates in proposal activities
- Establishes background knowledge on proposed scope to inform for program execution.
- Accountable to DPME and expected to operate with limited oversight
- Coordinates the interface between manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and the engineering IPTs to support the first article engineering builds.
- Creating long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for detailed tasks, adhering to program milestones and tracking resources.
- Ensure risk mitigation and opportunities are incorporated in IMS and tracked as tasks
- Collects, reviews, analyses and acts on project metrics and data to manage resources toward meeting project commitments and deliverables objectives.
- Executes as peer review leader
- Initiating material procurements and interfacing with Supply Chain, Vendors and Manufacturing to ensure resource availability to support build schedules.
- Ensures product bill of material is maintained, and accurate by coordinating inputs from IPT lead and product team through PDM system workflows.
- Provides visibility into material order status and elevates issues to IPT leads and DPME as necessary using MRP system reporting and analytics.
- Collects and coordinates inputs form technical leads to consolidate BOM
- Provides continuity from proposal to execution for material
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Organization and problem-solving skills
- Ability to use specialized software for collaboration and time management, including spreadsheets; Project scheduling applications like MS Project
- Experience with or ability to quickly learn PDM software (Windchill preferred) for managing product data, configurations, and change control processes
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (IFS preferred) for material planning, procurement tracking, and resource management
- Understanding of PLM workflows and how PDM systems integrate with engineering and manufacturing processes
- Ability to delegate skills and provide updates for local stakeholders
- Experience with inventory control, material management and tracking
- Strong time management and analytical skills
- Self-starter and initiator
- Strong communication skills
- Strong background in electrical/mechanical systems, packaging methods
- Strong understanding of how the technical solution supports mission objectives and requirements

Target salary range: USD $110,175.00/Yr. - USD $122,225.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
