The Software Engineer's role is to analyze, design and develop solutions to complex business and technical problems. The Software Engineer will work closely with Product Owners, Analysts, Project Managers, Software Architects, and the Operations group. The person must be an innovative, strategic, forward-thinking problem solver, demonstrate a high level of ownership and have a quality first mindset. Job duties include the development and maintenance of custom Java solutions containing complicated business logic. This position also requires an intermediate level of competency with SQL and demonstratable experience building software within the Oracle Utilities Application Framework and the Oracle SOA Suite.



Key Responsibilities:



  • Utilize the Oracle Utilities Application Framework to build and modify software components within a large distributed system
  • Utilize the Oracle SOA Suite to expose functionality within Oracle's Customer Care and Billing to other applications throughout the enterprise
  • Utilize proficiency across a wide range of technologies to contribute to optimization of software development and deployment
  • Optimize Java-based batch jobs within the Oracle Utilities Application Framework using strong knowledge of JPA, Hibernate/HQL, multithreading and optimal heap management techniques
  • Demonstrable experience designing, implementing and maintaining interfaces between in-house applications and third-parties
  • Write, review and optimize SQL queries
  • Work with the support team and the operations team to identify components within a large distributed system that require excessive manual intervention. Recommend programmatic fixes that minimize the system's TCO.
  • Write and review technical design documents.
  • Develop and maintain JUnit tests. Apply relevant ideas introduced by TDD methodologies to the existing software development process
  • Actively work with Product Owners to solve business problems
  • Consult with end users on business needs, translate business needs into software requirements, and interface with IT, consultants and end users to ensure the successful delivery of software solutions. Ensure that all projects and tasks are delivered to specification and meet business requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned to include: Documentation, team meetings, project work as assigned and other administrative tasks.

Education/Experience Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Two (2) or more years of relevant experience.

    • Oracle Utilities Application Framework
    • Oracle SOA Suite
    • Java, Hibernate, SQL
    • XPath, XLST
    • JUnit
    • HTML, AJAX, JSP, JavaScipt
    • Git




Scope:

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically, accountable for managing one's own time and work flow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed.



Decision Impact:

Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents.



Hybrid Work:

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs. Must be able to work after-hours during certain periods of the release cycle (such as hyper care after initial production deployment)



Storm Roles:

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but are not limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.



Data Governance:

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
