Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Engineer Project Manager to join our Texas site, which supports both R&D and manufacturing operations. This role will focus on sustaining R&D projects for Varian products, including Intelliblade (microwave ablation) and cryotherapy systems for cancer treatment.
All positions are new (not backfills) and require an on-site presence, with some flexibility during onboarding and training. This is a hands-on role; remote work is not standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage sustaining R&D projects from initial assessment through implementation and commercialization.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams and external suppliers to ensure successful project execution.
- Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, risk registers, and stakeholder communication strategies.
- Formulate project proposals and support business case development for potential initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with design controls, internal procedures, and quality system requirements.
- Oversee project execution, monitor progress, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Perform technical risk management, change management, and multi-project coordination.
- Collaborate closely with engineering disciplines and regional engineering units.
- Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives and ensure customer and business success.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Software, Electrical) or other STEM field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.).
- 5+ years of project management experience, ideally transitioning from an engineering background.
- Medical device industry experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in sustaining R&D and/or manufacturing engineering.
- Strong knowledge of design controls, DHF documentation, and change management.
- Skilled in project management tools such as MS Project, Jira, or Monday.com.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen, analytical ability, and problem-solving mindset.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification preferred.
