Who we are and what we do:

We are Strategic Technology Solutions (STS), a division within the Tennessee Department of Finance & Administration (F&A). STS supports state departments and commissions by providing technology planning, services, and infrastructure. As part of this mission, the Enterprise Business Solutions Architect for Cloud Technologies helps design and manage secure, efficient cloud systems using AWS. This role supports automation, security, and collaboration across IT teams, helping the state modernize its services and better serve Tennesseans.

Job Overview:

Enterprise Business Solutions Architect for Cloud Technologies (Cloud Solution Architect) is responsible for advanced IT work related to AWS cloud activities within STS. Under general direction, the architect uses complex technology to guide building, maintaining, and expanding the States AWS cloud environments. This role also helps define policies, standards, and best practices, and supports governance and communication with State departments. Additional duties include contributing to State-standard cloud tools such as containerization, DevSecOps, security, and compliance. Key tasks: Design cloud infrastructure using AWS services such as EC2, VPC, S3, RDS, ELB, and Lambda. Plan cloud platform development timelines, including proof of concept, pilot, conversion, and rollout. Automate deployments using AWS CloudFormation, CLI, SDKs, and third-party tools. Implement AWS security best practices (IAM, encryption, network security, compliance). Collaborate with network, systems, database, and security teams to support cloud operations. Troubleshoot platform issues with cross-functional teams. Manage provisioning and decommissioning of account resources. Monitor AWS notifications and coordinate platform or resource changes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) using AWS CloudFormation or Terraform to automate provisioning and management of AWS resources.
  2. Set up and manage CI/CD pipelines using AWS services (CodePipeline, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy) or GitHub for automated build, test, and deployment.
  3. Implement and manage cloud technologies within a DevSecOps framework, with hands-on experience in development and operations.
  4. Use CI/CD pipelines tailored to cloud infrastructure for efficient, automated deployment.
  5. Ensure compliance with security policies and standards in cloud design and implementation.
  6. Research and evaluate emerging cloud technologies.
  7. Guide teams in using IaC and State-approved tools.
  8. Ensure cloud platform code follows best practices and standards.
  9. Collaborate with network, systems, database, and security teams on cloud environment planning and operations.
  10. Monitor cloud resources, identify performance issues, and optimize usage through planning, tuning, and cost control.
  11. Troubleshoot platform issues and recommend solutions. Resolve incidents and conduct root cause analysis.
  12. Create and maintain technical documentation and knowledge base content.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelors or masters degree in computer science, data science, information science or related field, or equivalent work experience. A graduate degree is an advantage.

Experience:

  1. Five or more years of experience working with the AWS cloud platform.
  2. Ten or more years of experience working within software development or Internet-related industries.
  3. Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud.
  4. Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business, product, and technical solutions.
  5. In-depth knowledge of and experience with contemporary cloud practices and methodologies, adept at navigating and optimizing cloud environments to align with modern industry standards and best practices.
  6. In-depth knowledge of using both automation and management console in the monitoring and implementation of cloud resources.
  7. Experience in designing, developing, and managing cloud-based infrastructure and applications.
