Georgia-Pacific Consumer Manufacturing Group is seeking qualified professionals to consider for a Logistics & Automation Operations Leader role supporting the tissue and towel manufacturing operations at our Consumer Products Group Operation located in Zachary, LA.

The Logistics & Automation Operations Manager is responsible owning the logistics, automation, and support systems; and lead the operational team to be the best within Georgia Pacific. This role involves working closely with the Mill Manager/VP of Manufacturing and your peers to effectively utilize your gifts and talents in numerous ways to achieve results for the mill and gain valuable experience. The ideal candidate will possess economic thinking skills with the ability to deliver innovative solutions that provide a competitive advantage in the marketplace; have demonstrated the ability to act as an entrepreneur to effectively use critical thinking and judge appropriate risks to deliver maximum value to the company; and have a passion for innovation that applies analytical thinking skills to develop links between commercially available technology and the application of that technology to manufacturing operations.

Our Team

The Port Hudson Plant is located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA. The Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern and Brawny. The Port Hudson facility uses integrated technology to manufacture tissue and paper towel products in a progressive production environment. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away and there is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What You Will Do

  • Embrace influential leadership to support the organization while advancing our Principle-Based Management (PBM) culture by leading through influence, fostering accountability, and supporting team development
  • Manage the overall Retail Warehousing, Transportation, and Automation of finished goods and raw material workflows
  • Managing and automating Manufacturing Execution Systems, Warehouse Management Systems, and Yard Management Systems
  • Maintain open communications with service groups (KBX, Spotting, Customer Service, converting, quality, planners) to ensure both internal and external customer needs are met
  • Direct logistics and automation resources in the completion of cycle counts, material movement, loading, and unloading of product to meet daily targets
  • Create an environment that promotes transferring knowledge and ownership across team members
  • Champion and lead change initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis when deadlines are not met, or KPI's misses occur
  • Forecast potential issues that will affect customer service and take necessary actions
  • Optimize logistic and automation efficiencies by identifying needed staffing shifts and communicating needs to the proper leadership
  • Performance management of team
  • Create Lead and foster an Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) culture that values hazard identification and risk reduction by promoting personal ownership
  • Manage budgets, forecasts, and reporting related to logistics operations

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working within a manufacturing or industrial setting; direct experience must include operational responsibilities and direct leadership
  • Experience with strategic planning in a diverse environment
  • Manufacturing Management or Direct Supervisory experience with responsibility for direct reports
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be expected to have occasional weekend duty

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Automation, Logistics or similar field
  • Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) such as SAP, SAPEWM, iCPAQs, 4Sight Yard Management, SharePoint, Passport, etc
  • Continuous Improvement certification (Six Sigma, LEAN or similar)
  • Two (2) or more years of experience LEADING in an automated system
