The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Senior Assistant Dean for Faculty and Research Affairs provides strategic leadership and oversight for the School. This position manages the full life cycle of academic appointments for full-time faculty and officers of research, oversees faculty policies and compliance, coordinates high-level academic agreements and accreditation processes, and administers major budgets and grants. The Senior Assistant Dean serves as a key liaison to University offices and ensures effective operation of complex faculty governance processes and academic structures.

Responsibilities

Faculty Affairs

Full-time Officers of Instruction-- Leads, manages, and oversees the administration of all:



  • Reviews, including scheduling, ensuring compliance with SIPA and University procedures, and appropriate notification of outcome.
  • Letters of appointment, salary, renewal, and termination for all full-time and visiting officers of instruction.
  • Search procedures.
  • Tenure dossier compilation and submission to the University.
  • Additional compensation for full-time members of the faculty.
  • Leave requests and approvals.


Faculty Affairs Administration



  • Prepares agendas and confidential materials for extensive calendars of faculty meetings chaired by the Dean or Vice Dean;
  • Working closely with the Senior Associate Dean, prepares confidential communications from the Dean and Vice Dean, including salary letters, contract termination letters, tenure review documents, and others pertaining to faculty searches, appointments, and reviews;
  • Manages the Dean's non-confidential correspondence relating to senior-level faculty and research scholar reviews, searches and support;
  • Manages the collection of Faculty Information Forms and conflict of interest disclosure-compliance of full-time faculty and all officers of research.
  • Working with the Office of Communications and External Relations, serves as liaison for communication and publicity related to OAA events, as well as for the collection of faculty accomplishments via Faculty Information Forms, updating and expansion of websites for Academic Affairs and related special programs.
  • Supervises a Program Director on making arrangements for meetings, retreats, lectures, special seminars and other activities, including faculty involvement in non-OAA events, room and catering arrangements, preparing materials and publicity, taking minutes, and doing the related follow-up;
  • Coordinates with the University Senate office to manage procedures for SIPA faculty Senate seats.


Policies and Procedures



  • Maintain a comprehensive record of appointments, service, leaves, reviews, and renewals of full-time officers of instruction and full-time and part-time officers of research.
  • Communicate relevant SIPA and University policy procedures regarding academic appointments, and ensure compliance.
  • Track and collate University policies, and changes to policies, pertaining to all elements of academic appointments.
  • Work closely with the Associate Vice Provost for Academic Appointments on the foregoing matters.


Other



  • Oversees the core Academic Affairs annual budget of $300,000.
  • Supervision of two officers of administration.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree and at least four years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications and in project management and problem-solving in a work environment that requires teamwork and collegiality.
  • strong computer skills, including database and/or spreadsheet skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Undergraduate or graduate education in the social sciences or interdisciplinary public policy fields.
