The National Security Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Research Scientist at the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Chemical Biological Center (DEVCOM CBC) facility located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping the DEVCOM CBC mission. In this mission we support DEVCOM CBC in basic and applied research, development, testing, and evaluation efforts to support the U.S. Warfighter and ensure our Warfighters maintain battlefield dominance during a chemical and/or biological event.

Primary Responsibilities. Specific efforts will include the development and testing of materials for individual / collective protection and decontamination of chemical warfare agents and other toxic industrial chemicals / materials. Efforts will include synthesis of nanoporous materials and other novel materials as well as development and characterization of new polymer materials. Additional responsibilities include assisting the U.S. Army in research proposal writing to secure future project funding. Function as a team member with other engineers, chemists and scientists in synthesizing and testing novel materials such as mesoporous metal oxides (MMOs), metal organic frameworks (MOFs), and new polymers and generating scientific technical information.

Basic Qualifications. BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering or other equivalent scientific field with 4-8 years of prior relevant experience or advanced degree with 1-3 years relevant experience. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret Clearance; Candidate must have demonstrated experience and be versed in safe handling of toxic industrial chemicals and toxic industrial materials.

Preferred Qualifications. Familiarity with application of technologies such as Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.
