Job Summary


This position is assigned to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), Center for Infectious Diseases (CID), Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR), California Syndromic Surveillance (CalSyS) Program, under the general direction of the CalSyS Program Chief and under supervision from the OIDPR Assistant Office Chief for Programs. The CalSyS Program aims to improve public health outcomes in California through access to timely syndromic surveillance data that enables rapid and enquitable responses to potential public health threats.

The CalSyS Program Coordinator serves as a subject matter expert and primary coordinator/project manager for the CalSyS Program. Related duties include analysis and status tracking for moderately complex project-related issues, implementation of project management process in support of program functions involving CDPH and CalSyS teams and both internal and external stakeholders, monitoring of project progress, creation of proposals and reports, facilitation and direction of teams/project plans/schedules, monitoring of budgets and resources, direction of program activities, provision of strategic guidance to leadership, evaluation of program goals and objectives, and support for development and documentation of program processes/protocols/documents (e.g., governance structure, evaluation plans, communications, policy work, personnel recruitment/onboarding/management). .

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87,900 - $187,700 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Office of Infectious Disease Preparedness and Response (OIDPR) is part of the Center for Infectious Diseases within the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). OIDPR supports the planning, preparedness, and response to infectious disease threats or emergencies in California. The Center for Infectious Diseases (CID) protects the people in California from the threat of preventable infectious diseases and assists those living with an infectious disease in securing prompt and appropriate access to healthcare, medications and associated support services. CDPH is dedicated to protecting and optimizing the health and well-being of California's diverse people and communities. In collaboration with local health departments and other partners, CDPH programs and services touch the lives of every Californian and visitor.

The CalSyS Program within OIDPR aims to improve public health outcomes in California through access to timely syndromic surveillance data and information that enables rapid and enquitable responses to potential public health threats, such as infectious diease outbreaks, heat-related illness, opipid overdoses, and behavioral health challenges. Rapid detection of public heath trends related to illness, diease, and injury occurs through collection, ananlysis, and dissemination of syndromic data, which originates from healthcare facilities (e.g., hospitals, urgent care centers) throughout Calfironia.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 3+ years directly relevant experience
  • Experience with use of project management principles, theories, and concepts to manage and coordinate complex programs being administered in government settings.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas and information effectively (oral and written), including written reports and verbal presentations that include slides.
  • Skilled in scheduling/coordinating/facilitating meetings, drafting agendas, taking notes, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Prior use of project management tools (e.g., MS Teams) to design and implement systems to effectively track project progress and goals.
  • Skilled at researching information relevant to business needs, compiling relevant information, and summarizing/sharing findings with leadership and peers.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with leadership to relay relevant information and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
  • Ability to manage project progress within time, personnel, and budget constraints.
  • Knowledge of public health surveillance and data systems.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience analyzing projects with broad impact to public health

License/Certification


  • Project management certification from a reputable organization such as PMP, CSM or ACP to include a qualifying exam and / or quality assurance processes like Six Sigma or Lean or equivalent project management experience required
