The Safety Manager leads occupational safety efforts across our Midwest and Great Lakes operations. This high-visibility role requires strong communication and a consistent presence on jobsites to support project teams and implement comprehensive safety plans. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with OSHA and customer standards, managing site safety staff, developing site-specific safety plans, conducting risk assessments and training, leading incident investigations, managing claims, and driving company-wide safety initiatives. This proactive leader will thrive in a fast-paced environment, reinforcing our safety culture, standardizing protocols, and continuously improving safety performance to ensure the well-being of all team members.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Provide full-time site safety support for assigned projects and outages as needed.
  • Identify, recruit, and place qualified safety professionals to staff company projects and outages.
  • Develop written site-specific safety plans in collaboration with project managers, field leaders, and site safety professionals.
  • Conduct safety audits to ensure compliance with customer, OSHA, and regulatory standards; report findings to project leadership.
  • Identify gaps in safety program effectiveness, assess risks, implement control plans, and monitor for ongoing safety and compliance.
  • Design and deliver training programs to promote a strong safety culture, with a focus on developing safety leadership in field teams.
  • Create site-specific training materials that meet regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Support incident, injury, and claims management by leading investigations and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Participate in customer meetings and project safety walkthroughs as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of company-wide safety and loss prevention programs.
  • Manage and execute tasks in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Support broader company and corporate initiatives, including strategic planning and idea sharing.
  • Represent the company both internally and externally in a professional manner consistent with our values and mission.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education & Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety or related field is required.
  • 5 years or more safety-related experience is required.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910 standards is required.


Preferred Education & Experience:



  • Industrial construction/maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) certification (CSP, ASP, or CHST) is preferred.


Other Details:



  • This position will report regularly in person to Duluth, MN.
  • Frequent travel (50%+) to local/regional sites is required; role may involve extended hours and weekend work during peak project seasons.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Smartsheet).
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally across all levels, including client-facing interactions.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $67,700-$101,500. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
