Pharmacy Manager - Ambulatory Oncology

Position Summary:

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager (CPM) in Ambulatory Oncology will provide leadership, clinical expertise, and operational oversight for oncology pharmacy services in the ambulatory care setting. This individual will play a key role in advancing clinical pharmacy practice through collaborative drug therapy management (CDTM), optimization of billing processes, and development of gold bagging initiatives to enhance patient-centered care. The CPM will also serve as a resource to patients, providers, and the pharmacy team while ensuring compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and best practices in oncology pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Practice & Patient Care

  • Provide direct patient care services under CDTM agreements in collaboration with oncology providers, including initiation, adjustment, and monitoring of chemotherapy, supportive care agents, and chronic disease medications.
  • Conduct comprehensive medication management and patient counseling to optimize therapeutic outcomes, improve adherence, and minimize adverse effects.
  • Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans in alignment with clinical guidelines and institutional protocols.
  • Serve as an accessible resource for patients, caregivers, and the care team regarding oncology pharmacotherapy and supportive care.

Leadership & Program Development

  • Oversee clinical pharmacy operations within the ambulatory oncology practice, ensuring efficient workflow, safe medication use, and high-quality care delivery.
  • Lead the implementation, expansion, and evaluation of gold bagging programs (centralized preparation and delivery of chemotherapy to outpatient clinics) to improve safety, consistency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Partner with physicians, nursing, and administrative leadership to develop new clinical services and practice models.

Regulatory, Financial, and Billing Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with regulations related to oncology pharmacy practice.
  • Develop and optimize pharmacy billing and revenue capture processes for clinical pharmacy services, CDTM visits, and gold bagging.
  • Monitor reimbursement and identify opportunities to enhance financial performance and sustainability.
  • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPIs) for clinical, operational, and financial outcomes.

Education, Research & Performance Improvement

  • Provide ongoing education to providers, nurses, and staff on oncology therapeutics, supportive care.
  • Mentor and precept pharmacy residents, students.
  • Participate in research, performance improvement initiatives to advance oncology pharmacy practice.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of protocols, clinical guidelines, and evidence-based practice initiatives.

Eligibility Requirements:

Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current and unrestricted pharmacist license in NYS.
  • Completion of PGY2 Residency in Oncology highly preferred.
  • Board certification in Oncology Pharmacotherapy (BCOP) preferred.

Experience

  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience in academic or teaching hospitals is desirable.
