Position Summary:

The Senior Tax Accountant plays a critical role in safeguarding Benco's compliance with tax regulations across all jurisdictions. This position partners closely with the Lead Tax Accountant on sales and use tax matters and supports the Director of Tax with corporate tax requirements, including providing information to external tax partners, reviewing and filing state and federal returns and estimates, addressing tax notices and coordinating shareholder distributions. The Senior Tax Accountant will gain broad exposure to both indirect and corporate tax while contributing to process improvements, system enhancements, and cross-functional initiatives. The role also provides opportunities to engage with and mentor interns, further supporting the team's development.

Do YOU Possess These Skills and Attributes?



  • Multi-state sales and use tax compliance experience (returns, audits, and exemption management)
  • Knowledge of diverse product taxability rules across a large distribution footprint
  • Excellent phone, computer, and communication skills
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills to work under tight deadlines and with multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent research and interpretation of state/local tax law
  • High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint to work with large data sets and prepare presentations
  • Possess an improvement/automation mindset


Do These Responsibilities Interest YOU?



  • Prepares and files monthly and quarterly state sales & use tax returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintains exemption certificates within Vertex ECM to support compliant exempt sales.
  • Assists with Vertex O Series product taxability mapping, updates, and testing as directed by the Lead.
  • Supports audit responses by gathering data, preparing reconciliations, and assisting in defense of assessments.
  • Assure sales tax reports used to file returns reconcile to general ledger monthly.
  • Coordinates with TIS and the Lead to support integrity of ERP tax data and system calculations.
  • Responds to customer service and internal team inquiries related to sales tax determinations.
  • Provides data, schedules, and analysis for corporate S corporation filings.
  • Works with external advisors to review and file federal and state returns and estimated payments.
  • Assists with shareholder tax distributions by preparing supporting calculations and documentation
  • Administers compliance with state and local business licenses and other non-income taxes (mercantile, personal property, occupational, etc.).
  • Tracks deadlines and ensures timely filing of all related returns.
  • Assists with budget accruals and reconciliations for these obligations
  • Provides guidance and training to interns during peak workload or project assignments.
  • Assists with documentation of procedures, internal controls, and continuous improvement initiatives.



Do YOU Meet These Requirements?



  • 4-6 years of Accounting experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Experience with Vertex O Series (ECM, returns, product taxability mapping) or similar indirect tax software
  • Experience working with ERP systems (Infor M3, SAP, Oracle, or similar)
  • Ability to work in a hybrid capacity in Pittston, PA
