Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Mid-Level Server and Network Administrator for the Tenants Contract, supporting the Air Force Division at the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate's Integration and Operations Division (AFRL/RWOC) at Eglin AFB, FL.

Astrion is seeking a mission-focused Server and Network Administrator to support the operation, maintenance, and security of STARNet-an advanced, high-bandwidth, and configurable network supporting the research and development needs of scientists, engineers, and collaborative partners. This role requires a broad understanding of server infrastructure, network administration, and security best practices to maintain unclassified, collateral, and Special Access Program (SAP) networking environments critical to weapons technology innovation.

The ideal candidate brings experience in managing Windows and Linux servers, configuring network devices, and implementing security controls. You will collaborate closely with network engineers and cybersecurity engineers to ensure the reliable and secure operation of STARNet, supporting DevSecOps initiatives and maintaining a robust IT infrastructure across isolated and connected enclaves-all while enabling operational excellence and scientific agility.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree. At least an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Relevant experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • Experience: 3 to 10 Years' total experience, with 5 years of server and network administration experience, ideally within DoD or USAF environments.
  • Security Clearance: Secret Clearance. Top Secret Eligible. Eligible for Special Access Program (SAP) access. US Citizenship is required.
  • Certifications:
    • DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant (Security+ CE certification).
    • Certifications: CompTIA Server+, Network+, or relevant certifications.
  • Strong understanding of server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux).
  • Experience with network devices (routers, switches, firewalls).
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash).
  • Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF), Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation, and enclave compliance management.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs; adaptable to fieldwork and hands-on installations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Architecture, Design & Innovation

  • Collaborate with network engineers to implement network topologies for current and future connected and isolated environments, providing server and network administration expertise.
  • Support the deployment of STARNet solutions that support continuous research, development, and DevSecOps, working closely with network and cybersecurity engineers to configure and maintain servers and network devices.
  • Assist with server and network planning for long-term initiatives, including SDREN integration and the Weapons Technology Integration Center (WTIC), in conjunction with network and security planning efforts.
  • Provide input on server and network innovation roadmaps aligned with mission goals and emerging technologies, coordinating with network and cybersecurity engineers to ensure alignment.

Infrastructure & Facilities Integration

  • Coordinate with facilities, engineering, network, and security teams to ensure robust infrastructure supports research operations, focusing on the server and network aspects of hardware/power/cooling needs and structured cabling.
  • Support containerization, virtualization, and orchestration of systems to support laboratory computing, HPC, and edge devices, working with network and cybersecurity engineers to implement and maintain secure configurations

Security, DevSecOps & Compliance

  • Implement security controls on servers and network devices in compliance with NIST 800-series, DoD RMF, DISA STIGs, and cybersecurity best practices, collaborating with network and cybersecurity engineers to ensure seamless integration.
  • Support DevSecOps pipelines by automating server and network configuration and security scans, working with network and cybersecurity engineers to integrate security into existing pipelines.
  • Assist with ATO package development by providing server and network documentation and support, collaborating with ISSMs, network engineers, and cybersecurity stakeholders to ensure compliance.
  • Implement identity management and single sign-on solutions on servers and network devices across enclaves and hybrid environments, coordinating with network and cybersecurity engineers to implement and maintain these solutions.

System Engineering, Virtualization & Cloud Integration

  • Deploy and maintain hybrid cloud services and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, AWS, Azure), working with network and cybersecurity engineers to ensure secure and reliable server and network configurations.
  • Manage storage (SAN, EFS, EBS), automation (Terraform, Packer, Ansible), and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker) solutions, providing server and network administration expertise.
  • Enable connectivity between scientific equipment, cloud resources, and virtual desktops, collaborating with network and cybersecurity engineers to implement and maintain these connections.

Monitoring, Tooling & Documentation

  • Monitor server and network performance using platforms like OpManager, ManageEngine, and custom dashboards, working with network and cybersecurity engineers to correlate data and identify issues.
  • Document server and network configurations, procedures, and system information with tools like Lucidchart, Visio, and Confluence, ensuring documentation is aligned with network and security documentation.
  • Provide knowledge transfer, mentorship, and technical guidance to engineers and stakeholders on server and network-related matters, working with network and cybersecurity engineers to provide comprehensive guidance.
