Summary

The G.I. Endoscopy Technician allows individuals the opportunity for on the job education and training
to broaden their knowledge of gastroenterology. This individual works under supervision, to assist
with patient care in the Endoscopy procedure room with therapeutic procedures, complete
reprocessing of procedural instruments, supplies maintenance and room set up and tear down. The
G.I. Endoscopy Technician will complete educational training and exams and will be assigned a
designated mentor(s) to develop skills necessary to perform the G.I. Endoscopy Technician essential
functions within the scope of the role. This individual performs in a manner consistent with Baptist Health mission and vision.

Endoscopy Tech

40 Hours Weekly, Full Time, Dayshift

The Endoscopy Technician, working under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, is responsible for preparing exam rooms, assisting during endoscopy procedures, and cleaning equipment. This role requires technical proficiency with instruments and knowledge of proper cleaning and disinfecting processes. The technician provides basic physical care by assisting patients with lifting, turning, and ambulation, while communicating patient needs to nursing staff. Maintaining a safe and clean environment is essential, including practicing universal precautions, performing daily refrigerator temperature checks, keeping equipment like blanket warmers stocked, and cleaning stretchers after use. The technician also demonstrates accountability by greeting patients and visitors, answering inquiries, coordinating with other departments, and effectively communicating within the team. Additionally, the role includes documenting procedures, expediting patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and regularly testing and recording disinfectant results according to hospital policies.
