GD161 Junior Mobile App Developer
Machine Learning & Data Algorithms
Mobile App for Visualization of Climate Observations

ADNET is seeking a part-time junior developer for a temporary position to assist in development of mobile applications for visualization of remote sensed scientific data. The specific tasks will include:

  • Work with Software Development and User Experience staff to prototype the mobile version of Giovanni (https://giovanni.gsfc.nasa.gov), a comprehensive visualization and analysis application.
  • This app will support the selection and interactive visualization of a small catalog of Earth science data variables (e.g., geophysical observations).
  • Visualization includes two types, a map and a time series which are interactively linked (e.g., zooming on the map update the time series plot and vice versa).
  • Initial implementation will focus on time series plot.
  • Stretch goals include development of a map plot and interactive linking of map and time series.
  • App will be developed as a REACT-based application using the Ionic framework.
  • App requires an off-line mode when mobile network is unavailable. Plotting of variables (previously cached) must work in this off-line mode.
  • As time and resources allow, the developer might assist in additional tasks relevant to this project.

Requirements:

  • Current or previous coursework or demonstrated experience in development of mobile or web applications.
  • BS. or soon to graduate college senior/junior in Computer Science, Physical Sciences or Applied mathematics
  • Fluency in Python or app platform development languages
