Job Summary

The Mapping Technician I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the accuracy and maintenance of CAD maps and database attribute files used in utility or infrastructure mapping. Working under the supervision of a Mapping Technician II, Senior Mapping Technician, or Supervisor, this role assists with checking, updating, and correcting map data and project designs ranging from simple to moderately complex. The ideal candidate has foundational AutoCAD experience and a strong attention to detail, with the ability to learn and apply mapping standards and software processes.


Key Responsibilities


  • Review and update CAD maps and database attribute files with Work Order and Project designs.



  • Verify designs for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established mapping standards.



  • Notify senior team members or supervisors of any discrepancies or data inconsistencies.



  • Update network models and landbase data with corrections provided by higher-level technicians or supervisors.



  • Transfer project design and landbase information to CAD maps and database files as needed.



  • Maintain accurate customer-to-transformer linkage information within the mapping system.



  • Learn the operation of the mapping software and its integration with AutoCAD.



  • Perform related duties as assigned that align with the employee's skills and training.




Qualifications

Education:




  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in drafting, GIS, or related field preferred.




Experience:




  • Basic to intermediate AutoCAD experience required.



  • Previous experience with mapping, drafting, GIS, or related work preferred but not required.




Skills and Abilities:




  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and map review.



  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and project documentation.



  • Proficient in computer applications including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.



  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.



  • Willingness to learn new software tools and mapping processes.
