The University of Washington School of Medicine invites nominations and applications for the Neuroanesthesiology & Perioperative Neurosciences Division Chief in the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (UW APM). This is an Associate- or Full-Professor-level clinical position with protected time for administrative duties and academic endeavors. This position will have a reporting line to the UW APM Chair and will work closely with all UW APM vice chairs, division chiefs. This effort includes all clinical, education, research, and administrative operations within the division.
This position provides an outstanding opportunity to lead an internationally recognized division, drive clinical excellence, advance research initiatives, and foster educational growth. The Division Chief will oversee all aspects of neuroanesthesiology, working collaboratively with departmental and institutional leadership to ensure the highest quality of perioperative care, research, and training.
Key Responsibilities 1. Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Division of Neuroanesthesiology & Perioperative Neurosciences. 2. Provide and oversee the provision of neuroanesthesia and general anesthesia care at Harborview Medical Center and UW Medical Center Montlake. 3. Maintain and enhance the divisions reputation for clinical excellence, innovation, and patient-centered care. 4. Lead faculty recruitment, mentorship, and professional development efforts within the division. 5. Foster collaborative relationships with neurology, neurosurgery, neurointensivist, and other critical care medicine colleagues to advance multidisciplinary patient care, research, and quality improvement (QI) initiatives. 6. Support and enhance the divisions contributions to education and training, including the International Council for Perioperative Neurosciences Training (ICPNT)-accredited Neuroanesthesiology Fellowship program and the neuroanesthesiology residency rotation. 7. Promote faculty engagement in clinical and translational research and facilitate external funding opportunities. 8. Collaborate with perioperative leadership to optimize workflow, efficiency, and resource utilization in the operating rooms and non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) locations for neurointerventional procedures. 9. Engage in national and international leadership activities, representing the University of Washington in professional societies, conferences, and research initiatives.

Appointment Details A full-time faculty appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor rank (without tenure due to funding). Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position will be: Associate Professor $33,843 - $34,181 per month ($406,116 - $410,172 annually) or Professor $35,657 - $37,151 per month ($427,884 - $445,812 annually) commensurate with experience, qualifications, and specialty or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive pay through the UWP practice plan and an administrative salary supplement for administrative service as Division Chief, Neuroanesthesiology & Perioperative Neurosciences. Qualifications
MD, DO, or foreign equivalent medical degree. Board certification (or eligibility or foreign equivalent) in Anesthesiology. One year of fellowship training in neuroanesthesiology or neurocritical care (including board certification, or equivalent, in neurocritical care if trained in neurocritical care). Eligibility for licensure in the State of Washington.
