MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Associates Degree.
2. Completion of a Surgical Technology Program AND surgical technologist certification required.
3. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three (3) years of experience as a Surgical Technologist

1. Certified Surgical Technologist through Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) prefered

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. In conjunction with OR Director and procurement, develops and manages efficient acquisition of surgical inventory materials.
2. Develops and maintains systems which assure the accuracy of perpetual inventory counts, inventory locator systems, and reorder management systems.
3. Develops materials cost and inventory reduction programs and provides data to measure progress towards cost reduction targets.
4. Develops and analyzes reports (i.e. ABC analysis, usage history, ect) to target efforts to maximize inventory efficiencies.
5. Conducts year-end physical inventory and other periodic inventory counts as necessary
6. Provides inventory expertise and technical liaison to Central Sterile Processing.
7. Assures that the daily operational needs for supplies and equipment are met.
8. Ascertains daily order requirements through Lawson recommendations, physical counts, and personal observation.
9. Coordinates special deliveries from vendors.
10. Assists surgeon when necessary. Assists with immediate pre and post op care of patient, equipment and instrumentation. Second circulates as assigned.
11. Provides patients with basic care by performing technical skills in an aseptic manner.Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile role or in the OR.
12. Assists the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.
13. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines
14. Assists by gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.
15. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.
16. Processes supplies, instruments and equipment in patient care.
17. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.
18. Assist with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.
19. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.
20. Performs equipment checks as assigned.
21. Maintains accurate and appropriate records as directed. Utilizes the computer to process the patient requisitions. Enters patient and procedure information as required by various departments. Completes computer workflow functions. Organizes the workload for the area.
22. Provides and assists in the safe transport of patients, using proper and good body mechanics.
23. Monitors and converses with the patient to ensure patient comfort and safety, notifying RN, LPN, or supervisor of special needs, and assisting patients as needed. Gives explanations at a level patient will understand.
24. Maintains proper completion and maintenance of sterilizer logs on a daily basis.

1. Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
2. Ability to lift up to 40-pounds and push/pull heavy loaded carts up to 200 lbs
3. Possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity along with manual dexterity and technical ability.
4. Ability to wear lead for extended periods of time.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to follow strict sterile technique.
2. Ability to set up operating room with instruments and supplies for scheduled cases and pass to and from surgeon during procedures.
3. Knowledge of and adherence to strict aseptic and sterile techniques.
